Year 4 – Dramatic Diaries
Dive into the daily life of two Guinness World Records ICONS.
Familiarise your class with the features of a diary entry while introducing them to some outstanding accomplishments: the exceptional expeditions of the solo explorer Preet "Polar Preet" Chandi and the nail-biting stunts of the strongman David "Dave" Walsh.
In this lesson, pupils will:
✍️ Identify the key elements of a diary entry
📝 Explore creative writing with their own diary entry, written as the polar explorer Preet Chandi or strongman Dave Walsh
Year 5 – Brilliant Biographies
One of our favourite parts about record-breaking is that it can inspire others to explore their skills... either at home or in the middle of the South Pole!
Engage your class with the real-life accomplishments of our record holders.
In this lesson, pupils will:
📔 Read a biography of a tennis champion: Guinness World Records ICON and multiple record holder Serena Williams, who can boast the most Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards nominations for a female athlete
🖊️ Test their knowledge by writing a biography incorporating the features identified during the reading exercise
🚀 Get creative! They'll be free to unleash their imagination with a biography of either Dave Walsh or Preet Chandi
Year 6 – Junior Journalists
Can your class guess the age of the youngest columnist in the world (male)? Read his story on our Kids Website, and nurture the journalists of tomorrow with these fun-packed activities and creative writing exercises.
In this lesson, pupils will:
⭐ Identify the key elements of journalistic report writing
📖 Read an article about Polar Preet's record-setting solo expeditions in Antarctica, learning how to recognise the elements of a newspaper report in the text
🎤 Apply their learnings and test their reporting skills with a piece about the record-breaking strongman Dave Walsh
