Talking up a storm, Mario Bekes (Australia) has broken the record for the longest audio only live-stream lasting a phenomenal 55 hr 26 min, from 30 April to 1 May 2023 in Sydney, Australia.

Mario is known for his motivational podcast Life, the battlefield where he aims to educate, share and bring positivity to the lives of individuals.

In his record attempt, he wanted to go further, and break a record title to provide non-stop advice to listeners, focused on self-empowerment and improvement.

His feat beat the previous record of 53 hr 1 min achieved by Matt Hall and Dan Ramsden (both UK), in Bradford, UK, from 24 to 26 July 2020.

Mario started his radio career as a presenter on community radio station Alive 90.5 FM, after his Professor Clive Smallman took him under his wing.

Originally from Croatia, he first arrived in Australia in 1988, which was a challenging time as he had no prior connections or history here.

Instead of giving up, he found his voice through community radio in 2009 and began sharing his unique stories and experiences.

This is where he was further mentored in English, and continued running his own radio talk show, as he believes that everyone has a story worth sharing.

His love for podcasting came much later in 2019, where he furthered his education in public speaking and presenting on camera.

The attempt took place at the same radio station, Alive 90.5 FM, and as per the guidelines had to be a continuous show.

This meant the radio show had to be conducted without music, commercials, or normal public phone-ins, making it, in his words, ‘a very unusual radio show’

Mario kicked things off early morning on 30 April 2023, after he had been to the gym and had a cup of coffee.

He kept in high spirits during the first few hours of the attempt due to the electric energy of the studio, with his team cheering him on.

Mario admits that he was exhausted after the first couple of hours and things started to wind down in the evening.

As the night continued, Mario was joined by guests in-person and internationally, taking on a talk show format and giving advice to listeners.

He had sourced the guests beforehand by email, which he confessed was "tricky" as they were expected to stay the night.

During the attempt, he was supervised by a doctor who prepared food and liquid intakes, including water, soups and fruit.

After more than two days with no sleep, the radio show came to an end and official adjudicator Pete Fairbairn was on hand to present Mario with his certificate.
