Honda (UK) brought their employees and delegates together to create the largest rugby ball logo (mosaic) at Twickenham Stadium on 26th April 2022.

The global car manufacturer announced a multi-deal with the English Rugby Union earlier this year.

The Honda logo is now displayed across the England men’s under-18s and under-20s playing and training kits.

So, it was only fitting that the Honda logo was created on the side of the pitch to celebrate this sponsorship.

A total of 2,030 size-five rugby balls were used to create the mosaic: 813 supporter-quality red balls and 1,217 training quality balls supplied by Gilbert Rugby.

The mosaic was of the Honda logo and covered an area of 104.605 m² (1725.959 ft²), equal to the size of 14 Honda HR-V’s lined up inside the stadium.

For the attempt to be valid, stewards attended to ensure that the balls were in contact with each other as the logo was created.

Participants started creating the logo from the middle and then worked outwards towards the edges.

To make sure that the mosaic was an exact replica of the in-use logo, it was compared to a direct vertical overhead shot of the Honda logo.

The record was used to engage employees and recognise the customer-facing side of the company.

After the independent surveyor confirmed the measurements, the certificate was awarded and a special photo op was attended by English actor and former rugby union player Martin Bayfield.

honda awarded gwr certificate

"We’re delighted to have set a new Guinness World Records title at the home of English rugby. It was an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the game at one of the most iconic stadiums in world sport, while also getting in the record books. Power of dreams is the Honda slogan for a reason. Being able to surprise our customers and our colleagues with an activity like this is incredible. It’s unconventional, but it’s also an amazing opportunity – especially because so many deserving local clubs are going to benefit from it. Sports and community are important to us, and we’re looking forward to continuing our pursuit of both." Jean-Marc Streng, Managing Director at Honda UK

The record-breaking rugby balls used to form the mosaic was donated by Honda to grassroots rugby clubs across the UK.
