Dallas area swept by football fever as Frisco tourism breaks soccer-inspired record
This 2026 World Cup saw an exhilarating tournament held across the United States of America, Mexico and Canada.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, a Texas city's tourism arm, Visit Frisco (USA) broke the record for the largest football (soccer) number with an astonishing 1,141 footballs.
This is a new record with a minimum of 1,000 footballs.
Frisco is a fast-growing suburb north of Dallas and is known as “Sports City USA” home of the Dallas Cowboys and the PGA of America.
What’s more, is the city also served as the base camp for the Swedish national team, with players training at Toyota Stadium.
The Dallas region was definitely hit with football fever as the AT&T Stadium (renamed Dallas Stadium) held a total of nine matches, the most held across the three host nations
This included four nail-biting knockout stage matches, which saw Spain become the eventual world champions.
For Visit Frisco, the world record attempt was held to promote the city as the premier place of sport and entertainment in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area.

On the day, more than 100 volunteers, city leaders, and community members placed soccer balls on the field of Warren Sports Complex.
With several more attendees coming to cheer on and support the local event.
The custom-designed footballs were formed to create the number “2026”, celebrating the hosting year of the World Cup.
After about 90 minutes of sweat and careful counting, the record was announced as successful!

The enthusiasm of the event was further commented on by Michael who said, “You could really feel the energy from the entire community in attendance”.
This was amplified by a DJ set and the several beloved Texas mascots who came to hype up the event, including the FC Dallas and the Dallas Cowboys mascots.
The crowd were particularly excited by the two bumping elbows on the field.

To further rally the community together, the City of Frisco and FC Dallas held World Cup watching parties so residents could enjoy the competition and support their favourite teams together.
After the attempt, the footballs were donated to nonprofits, schools, and some were suspended in nets during the 39-day watch party outside City Hall, a reminder of their achievement and commitment to sports.
Congratulations to all involved!
One of the goals of this record attempt was to bring the Frisco community together while celebrating soccer and the North Texas region's hosting efforts for such a global event. Because Frisco is Sports City USA, this is a chance to show our passion for sports and our valued collaboration between our local partners and residents. -Cori Powers, Director of Marketing and Communications for Visit Frisco
