Instant noodle fans from around the world have helped Buldak (South Korea) and Samyang Foods America (USA) get a taste of social media history, after the pair took the Guinness World Records title for the most videos of people eating instant noodles uploaded to TikTok in one hour.

On 1 October, the brands challenged ramen-lovers to upload videos of themselves to the site between 5-6 p.m. PDT (12-1 a.m. GMT), featuring shots of their faces as they tasted, slurped – and perhaps heavy-breathed – their way through a packet of the famous spicy noodles.

In total, 355 participants answered the #BuldakRecord call – elevating Buldak and Samyang into the record books, and creating tons of media buzz around the crazy culinary competition.

“This wasn't a record Buldak could break by itself,” said Abbas Arslan, Vice President of Marketing for Buldak at Samyang America, Inc. “It took hundreds of fans choosing to show up, grab their noodles and be part of the moment. That's what makes this record so special because it belongs to the Buldak community.”

Buldak is Samyang Foods’ South Korean instant noodle brand, launched in April 2012 and known for its spicy hot chicken flavour. They also offer options such as original, Carbonara, and cheese, as well as a range of packets with increasing spice levels, reaching up to the mouth-watering 3X.

These spicy flavours led to Buldak’s first viral social media moment, revolving around the Fire Noodle Challenge, where participants attempted to devour the spiciest pack they could manage without drinking any water to quench the burn.

And warning – if you try this at home, please note that their heat warnings are no joke!

Following the success of the Fire Noodle Challenge, the teams were inspired to steam-ahead with a Guinness World Records attempt that would continue showing off their social media status as a community-driven brand.

So they reached out to the world with their shared goal, and invited them to collaborate on this record-breaking accomplishment!

Fans contributed directly to the record by eating instant noodles and sharing their own videos, turning an activity closely associated with Buldak into this collective achievement.

The Stoke Twins were one of the notable channels that participated in the attempt, and they said they were inspired to take part because: “We both love Buldak and breaking world records, so teaming up felt like the perfect opportunity to do something massive together.

“We’re always trying to push ourselves to go bigger and crazier with everything we do,” they continued, “and we’re happy to have seen this one come to life.”

Once the window for submissions had closed, Guinness World Records Adjudicator Andy Glass went through the videos to tally up just how many noodle-lovers had participated.

And as it turns out – the community was eager to take part!

355 individuals posted videos on their TikTok pages with the #BuldakRecord, and they all became part of pasta history.
