Duo rises to the occasion in Taco Cabana’s record-breaking taco eating competition

Taco Cabana (USA) celebrated their 47th anniversary with a Taco Eating Championship, where it wasn't just bragging rights at stake but a world record title.
The event held in San Antonio, Texas drew excitement and fun at the prospect of a new record title being made.
James Webb (Australia) and Miki Sudo (USA) came out on top with them jointly eating nine tacos each breaking the record for the most soft-shell tacos in a minute.
The minimum to eat was eight.
Taco Cabana worked in partnership with Major League Eating and Dr Pepper for this attempt.
Major League Eating oversees all professional eating contests, hosting popular events worldwide.
The event not only brought out locals from the San Atonio area, but professional eaters and fans flew in from all over the country to witness the eating competition!
The event started outside a Taco Cabana store at 10 a.m., getting off to a hot and sunny start.
All tacos were made in-house an hour before the competition and had to adhere to strict rules, such as be a minimum weight of 40 g. In the end, each taco was 100 g.
To ensure they were the accurate size, Official Adjudicator Brittany Dunn inspected each one.
10 contestants competed in this title, and each were served a tray containing 10 tacos to begin with.
On offer were Taco Cabana’s iconic bean and cheese tacos, which have long been a fan-favourite for decades at the fast-food Mexican establishment.
Each was made with in-house flour tortilla and filled with refried beans and a mix of shredded cheese.
Miki is a familiar face to record-breaking, holding titles including the most hot dog eaten in one minute and the fastest time to eat a burrito.
After the record attempt, the contestants went on to compete in an eight-minute soft-shell eating competition hosted by Major League Eating.
This record attempt serves as a kick-off to Taco Cabana branching out into setting up more competitive eating competitions
It feels incredible to know that Taco Cabana now holds a Guinness World Records title. To achieve this in San Antonio, where our brand was born nearly 50 years ago, makes it even more meaningful. Our Bean & Cheese Taco has always been a fan favourite, and now it’s a record breaker. This honour is a proud moment for our entire team, our guests, and the community that has supported us from the very beginning. - Ulysses Camacho, President and COO of Taco Cabana
