USA Flag makes history as 11,000 people join largest flag football tournament ever

Tampa, Florida became the epicentre of flag football history as USA Flag and Body Armor Sports Drink set a new Guinness World Records title for the largest flag football tournament ever held. 

A record breaking 11,779 participants gathered at the Sportsplex of Tampa Bay on 18 January, marking a significant milestone for the sport. This was a new record title with a minimum to beat of 3,900 participants.

The 2025 Flag Football World Championships hosted by USA Flag spanned from 15 to 20 January, attracting over 1,300 teams from 40+ states and 13 countries. 

The tournament not only showcased the talent of the athletes but also highlighted the incredible growth of the event hosted by USA Flag, which started just a decade ago with 50 teams.

Among the diverse array of participants, the MVFFL women’s league proudly represented four women’s teams and eight co-ed teams, emphasizing the inclusivity and competitiveness of flag football. 

Despite facing mild hurricane weather conditions on the final day, the tournament concluded successfully on 20 January, bringing together athletes of all ages and skill levels.

The event featured youth, high school, collegiate and adult divisions, with over 75 categories to participate in, each offering cash prizes for winners.

The atmosphere was electric, with games running concurrently on multiple fields from morning until night. Attendees enjoyed a lively outdoor environment, complete with food trucks, merchandise vendors, games, and dedicated recovery zones offering massages and hydration stations.

Throughout the tournament, official referees ensured fair play and accurate scorekeeping, maintaining the integrity of the competition as games unfolded from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, and from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

On Saturday afternoon, as excitement built around the event, a significant announcement was made. After reviewing witness statements, photos, videos, and scorecards, a Guinness World Records Adjudicator confirmed that the tournament had indeed surpassed the required minimum number to break the record. 

The 2025 Flag Football World Championships hosted by USA Flag not only set a record but also created lasting memories for everyone involved, solidifying its place in sports history.

Flag football is a non-contact form of American football. Each team has 12 or more players, and the format prioritizes speed, creativity, and athleticism.  

USA Flag is on the forefront of pushing the sport for Olympic inclusion, runs the largest flag football tournaments in the world and is the most followed brand in the sport.

According to the Olympics, Flag football is one of the five additional sports proposed by the LA28 Organising Committee for inclusion at the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028, pending approval from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at their session in Mumbai (October 2023).
