In the quiet town of Campuestohan, located in Negros Occidental, Philippines, stands a very unique and equally enormous landmark - a building shaped like a giant chicken!

Measuring, 34.931 m (114 ft 7 in) in height, 12.127 m (39 ft 9 in) in width and 28.172 m (92 ft 5 in) in length, Campuestohan Highland Resort's latest holiday spot is officially the largest building in the shape of a chicken.

Ricardo Cano Gwapo Tan - the mastermind behind the project - says that he is a dreamer and wanted to create the unthinkable.

"I had a vision to make something with a wow factor that can really leave a footprint of admiration to the public."

The building under construction

Ricardo was quick to get the project going; the conceptualisation and planning took no more than six months. The construction began on 10 June 2023 and was a completed building with a Guinness World Records title by 8 September, this year.

The building is actually a hotel with 15 rooms, with air conditioners, large comfy beds, large TVs and hot showers where small or large families or groups can relax and unwind.

Design of the uniquely shaped building proved to be challenging, especially when the building has to withstand storms and typhoons that are common in the region. Despite this, the construction was completed in 456 days.

But why a rooster?

Ricardo answers: "Negros Occidental has a gamefowl industry that employs millions of people in the Philippines. If you look at a rooster, it looks calm and commanding, imposing and strong which reflects the attitude of our people."

The rooster can stand against strong winds and can withstand pressure from other roosters, an attitude of Negrense people with resilience to recover quickly from any form of difficulties and hardships in life, one trait that their people have in times of crisis and challenges.

The land for the Campuestohan Highland Resort was bought by Ricardo's wife Nita, and was cleaned up in 2010. According to Ricardo, they were suprised with the mesmerizing view of the mountain. Despite the lack of decent road and electricity, he began building a resort there.

Today, the resort boasts a massive wave pool, a large restaurant, a cafe, three swimiming pools, hotel rooms, bonita huts, hundreds of dinosaurs and cartoon/Marvel figures, and of course the largest building in the shape of a chicken. The latter is already becoming a landmark, and making Ricardo's family, as well as the people living in the region, proud.

I feel proud and humbled at the same time. I'm proud to have put my province and my home country on Guinness World Records. Humbled as I am from a poor upbringing where I had to work as a shoeshine boy to earn a living and go to school. I have made my family, my province and my country proud.
