Kansas City, Missouri area athletes have come together to break the record for the Fastest marathon distance in relay.
The event on Friday 15 June involved multiple sprinters carrying a baton for race legs of approximately 200 metres each, covering a full marathon distance of 26.2 miles.
Running at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas, attendees set a new record after earning a time of 1 hr 30 min 40.316 sec, beat the previous record set in Japan in 1998 by eight minutes.
The event attracted high school, collegiate, and master sprinters totaling to 60 participants, each running multiple times to complete the total distance.
The event organisers raised over $58,000 to be split between two local charities, Hope Faith Ministries and The Global Orphan Project.
"On behalf of everyone at GO Project, we are honored to be a beneficiary of this event. The radical generosity of all those who contributed to this event will go a long way in supporting our mission to care for vulnerable kids and families around the world and right here in the Kansas City area," said Mike Fox, Founder of The Global Orphan Project.
