On Sunday 28 February, holiday company Haven (UK) is going to attempt an exciting Guinness World Records title for the Most sandcastles built in one hour at their Devon Cliffs Holiday Park in Exmouth.

The total to beat is an impressive 2,230 individual sandcastles, constructed by Abenteuer Leben, Kabel Eins (Germany) with support of Thomas van den Dungen (Netherlands), in St Peter-Ording, Germany, back in 2013.

Harder than it sounds, the Guinness World Records guidelines state that the sandcastles must be made entirely from sand and at least one bucket with four visible towers must be used for each sculpture. The completed castles have to be at least 2 ft (0.6 m) high and clearly distinct from one other.

The exciting record attempt marks the launch of a brand new partnership between Guinness World Records and Haven in 2016, where holidaymakers will be given the opportunity to have a go at setting a variety of vacation-related records of their own – such as Fastest time to pack a suitcase, Tallest flip flop stack in 30 seconds and Fastest time to pass through ten rubber rings – as part of the Guinness World Records Live! Tour.

Not only this, but randomly selected guests will also get the chance to take part in the Guinness World Records Live! experience during Haven’s early evening GOLIVE show.

Head of Entertainment at Haven, Steve Donnelly said: “For 2016 our light entertainment offering is taking innovative and creative next steps. This summer we are excited about getting our guests getting involved in exciting record breaking attempts, the whole experience is a truly exhilarating feature for the whole family.”

Sales and Marketing Manager at Bourne Leisure, Erman Housein added: “It’s an honour to be working with such an iconic brand and one that is ingrained in the minds of many from their childhood. We are always looking for new and exciting activities for our guests to try and you can’t get much better than the opportunity to become a Guinness World Records title holder!”
