My Little Pony collector amassed record hoard after parents refused to buy her a horse

As a youngster, Miranda Worby (UK) desperately wanted a horse. But after her parents said no, she discovered My Little Pony and fell in love.

Years later, she owns the world’s largest collection of My Little Pony memorabilia after amassing 4,550 items related to the little plastic horses with colourful hair.

Her record-breaking hoard began with a pink pony called Snowflake, which she still has today.

“As a kid I wanted them all, even though some items were exclusive to other countries,” she said. “When I realized there was so much out there and I could obtain all those things thanks to the internet it got serious! Around 1997 I started seriously collecting.”

By 2018, her collection had grown so much she had to move to a bigger house just so she could display it all.

Her stockpile includes many of the classic figures as well as things like backpacks, mugs, clothing, make up and even an arcade ride from the 90s.

That was tricky for her to get home though.

She explained: “I didn’t realize it would be SO big and I had to sit in the footwell of the car going home. I thought it wouldn’t be so bad as the previous owner had it in his kid's bedroom. What I didn’t realize was he lived in a bungalow and had taken the front door off to get it outside!”

Miranda, who is featured in Guinness World Records 2027, is keen to point out that all of her My Little Pony figures still retain their unique smells, hence her social media username @sniffingplasticponies.

People around the world love her collection and have even sent her pictures of themselves riding on an arcade ride just like the one she owns when they were kids.

But her favourite item of all is the Megan & Sundance figure set she was gifted on her fifth birthday because she has so many great memories of playing with it when she was a child.

The rarest item she owns is a pony called Fireball that was made in Thailand, which is one of just two she says are known to exist.

Some of the items in her collection have been very difficult for Miranda to get her hands on.

She said of one: “I travelled two hours for a grail item before. I have also sent people who live all over the UK to pick up Pony items locally to them! I got into bidding wars at my local auction house for an item recently too.”

On why people still love My Little Pony today, Miranda theorized: “Because of its nostalgia feel, I think every generation is introduced to MLP by their parents or family, it’s an easy going concept and who doesn’t love ponies?”

Collecting them has helped Miranda make new friends who share her passion for the Ponies.

She said people should never be embarrassed about collecting something they love because there will always be plenty of other people out there who love that thing just as much.

Miranda’s collection is not complete yet. She still loves looking for new items to add to it, and says there is one in particular that has eluded her so far – a generation one Pony called Bon Bon, who was a character in the 90s cartoon.
