Trek fans boldly go for Guinness World Records title with mass Vulcan salute

Set phasers to fun! Hundreds of Trekkies beam into London's Science Museum on Star Trek Day 2026 to salute their favourite Vulcan, Mr Spock.

In celebration of 60 legendary years of the Star Trek franchise, CBS Studios/Paramount partnered with the Science Museum in London for a very special Star Trek Lates event. There, on 10 September - designated as Star Trek Day 2026 - fans visiting the immersive Warp Trail exhibition gathered to attempt a new Guinness World Records title: the most people performing a Vulcan salute simultaneously.

Dedicated Trekkies arrived in full costume, determined to boldly go where no fan had gone before. A total of 1,188 fans scanned in using the Guinness World Records Verify app, spreading excitement across three entire floors of the Science Museum atrium.

The record attempt was hosted by drag king MC Don One, with special guest Martin Quinn – aka Montgomery Scott in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – adding some serious Star Trek star power to the evening.

The moment of truth came at 9:30 p.m. In unison, 934 participants raised their hands – palms forward, thumb extended, fingers parted between the middle and ring finger – performing the iconic Vulcan salute first seen in the classic 1967 Star Trek episode "Amok Time". They held it for the required one minute, and adjudicator Paulina Sapinska gave a hand signal of her own: a thumbs up!

"For an attempt that lasted only one minute, there was a lot of excitement," said Paulina, "and it was a huge bonding moment for the fans."
