American woman who's mad for frogs builds world's largest collection of over 13,000 items

Susan Burgos is mad as a box of frogs… about frogs!

She’s addicted to amassing amphibians, that is.

The American woman officially has the world’s largest collection of frog-related items with a whopping 13,201 of the little green guys crammed inside her home in Camarillo, California.

In fact, her collection is so vast that she had to buy a second home with a large garage just to have enough space to store it all.

Her record, confirmed in January, beats the previous mark of 10,502, owned by Sheila Crown (UK).

And it’s a very appropriate one to highlight today – the official release day of Guinness World Records 2027, which has a wonderful shiny green cover.

Susan started collecting frogs in 1983 after finding a tiny tree frog in her kitchen.

“It stole my heart,” she told us. “It inspired me, and I bought my first item: a gold frog ring with emerald eyes.”

She looks for items to add her to collection everywhere she goes, often picking them up while she’s travelling or thumbing through pages of catalogues to find the perfect additions to her froggy family.

From stuffed animals to ornaments and homeware accessories to items of clothing, Susan has managed to find a frog-themed version of just about everything you can imagine.

She even has enough frog Christmas decorations to completely cover her tree.

But among them, she does have a favourite.

When asked to pick just one, she confessed: “Well, one that springs to mind is an animated singing biker frog on a motorcycle that plays ‘Kokomo’ [by The Beach Boys].”

As you’d expect with over 13,000 frogs to her name, Susan says the biggest challenge of her collection is storing it.
