All the records broken at the Berlin Marathon 2026
This weekend, thousands of ambitious athletes from over 160 nations gathered in Germany for the BMW Berlin Marathon 2026.
The 52nd edition of the beloved German leg of the Abbott World Marathon Majors kicked off with the inline skating marathon on Saturday and continued with the traditional long-distance race on Sunday.
Among the over 80,000 participants expected for the two-day event, nine ambitious athletes stepped up their training to earn a medal and – perhaps – a coveted Guinness World Records title.
For the eighth consecutive year, Guinness World Records partnered with the Berlin Marathon to celebrate resilience, athletic prowess and creativity.
The long-standing collaboration celebrates record-shattering feats and encourages everyone to challenge their limits and set new goals, shining a light on the inspiring stories of those overachievers who decide to add an extra challenge to their race.
With 10 record titles up for grabs across the two main events, we flew out to Germany for a weekend of record breaking.
On Saturday, Jochen Glasbrenner and Monika Tischbierek (both Germany) dashed across the capital to make history.
The two ambitious skaters respectively completed the fastest inline skating marathon dressed as a comic book character (male) and the female record for the fastest inline skating marathon wearing lederhosen.
Jochen completed the marathon in 1 hour, 20 minutes and 40 seconds dressed as a Smurf, while Monika finished with an impressive 02 hr 06 min 53 sec.
In 2023, Monika already set the record for the fastest half marathon dressed as a chef (2 hr 34 min 54 sec).

After that, the records just kept rolling in.
Official Adjudicator Lena Kuhlmann met the successful runners on the finish line, certificate in hand, to verify their records and celebrate their achievement.
The first athlete to cross the finish line was Sam Wilson.
The UK runner was the first to set a record on Sunday, claiming the title for the fastest marathon dressed as a singer (male) in just under three hours, with an impressive result of 02:52:49.

Of course, the Berlin Marathon wouldn't be the same without a record-shattering performance from Jochen Glasbrenner.
An enthusiastic endurance athlete hailing from Stuttgart, Germany, Jochen has taken on an impressive string of sporting challenges over the years, ranging from marathons to cycling. He proved to have versatility and talent in spades and (unsurprisingly) collected many record titles along the way:
- Fastest inline skating marathon dressed as a superhero, broken during the Berlin Marathon 2018
- Greatest distance cycled on a bike roller in 12 hours, cycling a whopping 612.10 km (380.34 mi) in 2021

He also broke two records during last year's Berlin Marathon:
- Fastest marathon dressed as a can, although the record was recently broken by Kent Ohori during this year's Sydney Marathon
- Fastest inline skating marathon wearing lederhosen (1 hr 24 min 11 sec)
This year, Jochen was once again a man on a mission.
Showing no signs of slowing down, the talented athlete replicated his previous success and added two new record titles to his collection.
After all, why settle for one record when you can break two?

The weekend closed with six successful record attempts, capping months of training with an Officially Amazing result.
