Serial record breaker says "never give up" as he admits to thousands of failed attempts
Have you ever heard of David Rush (USA)? We’d be surprised if you haven’t! With over 200 titles currently to his name, he is on a mission to be the person with the most Guinness World Records titles in the world!
We caught up with David, also known as “Record Breaker Rush”, to find out more about him and his lifetime of fantastic feats.
David was the third person to surpass 200 titles, following two other serial record breakers: GWR Hall of Fame member, Ashrita Furman, and GWR ICON: Silvio Sabba.
He told us: “When I was growing up, I read the Guinness World Records books like so many children out there. I always believed, ‘I wish I could break a world record.’”
With such an impressive collection, each achievement has taken hard work and perseverance. But which one did he gain first?
He explained: “I started practising for the longest duration juggling three objects blindfolded. The record was 6 minutes 29 seconds, held by famous juggler Neils Duinker. I met him on a cruise ship, and he gave me some tips. I practised for months and in October 2015 I juggled for 6 min 34 sec while blindfolded to break my very first Guinness World Records title.”

His determination did not stop there. He went on to break this title again in 2016 and 2021, before reclaiming it on 15 December 2023 with a time of 1 hr 3 min 4 sec.
Becoming a serial record breaker comes with serious dedication, and David is eager to show that it all comes down to having a growth mindset. “I wanted to show people that you can get better at literally anything. I have broken over 400 Guinness World Records titles at this point, but I have literally thousands of failed attempts.”
David truly is a man of many talents, and his skills range from juggling to balancing and throwing things. Some of his titles include most candy-coated popcorn caught in one minute (individual), with a total of 48 pieces. He also spent 19 min 11 sec to gain the record for longest duration balancing a ladder on the chin back in 2024.

His enthusiasm for GWR is clear: “There’s no other way to describe it other than that I am addicted to breaking Guinness World Records titles in the best way possible. It’s fun, it’s challenging, it’s competitive, and I’m a really competitive person.
“It’s often not the breaking of a record that’s the most satisfying. It is the pursuit of that record. It is the practice and progression of getting better and better.”

In 2021, David set himself the ambitious goal of breaking a record every week, and by the end of the year he had achieved 52 titles.
He even created a video showing people how they can attempt Guinness World Records titles at home. So, what record will you have a crack at?
David considers the longest duration juggling three objects to be his toughest achievement yet. He explained: “It was on my list since 2017. There are no stops, drops or bathroom breaks - no breaks at any time. The previous record was 12 hr 5 min. It’s just daunting, physically.”

On 16 May 2023, David completed the challenge with a time of 13 hr 10 min 5 sec at his attempt in Boise, Idaho, USA.
The following year, he travelled to GWR HQ in London and broke an incredible 15 records in one day!
One of his most gruelling titles was gained recently on 16 May, for most T-shirts worn during a marathon (male). His attempt took place during a running event, and he wore 125 T-shirts to secure the title.

Away from record breaking, David is also passionate about encouraging the next generation to pursue STEM subjects: “I want to promote STEM education - science, technology, engineering, math - to show students that even if you struggle with science or fail at maths, you can still become an engineer. You don’t need to give up on your dreams."
With hundreds of accomplishments in the record books, David still has plenty left to prove. From juggling for hours to running marathons wearing more than 100 T-shirts, his journey is a reminder that success doesn't always happen first time. Behind every achievement are hours of practice, plenty of failed attempts, and the determination to keep pushing towards new challenges.
So, what’s next for Record Breaker Rush? We’ll have to wait and see!
