Luke Combs becomes first country solo star to headline Wembley with three sell-out shows

When it rains, it pours… but that’s not always a bad thing, as country music legend Luke Combs (USA) has taught us.

And testament to his lasting impact on the country scene, he was presented with three Guinness World Records certificates backstage at Wembley Stadium on the second night of his My Kinda Saturday Night Tour. 

Combs achieved a new record for the first solo country artist to headline Wembley Stadium, securing the title on Friday 31 July as he played his first of three shows at the iconic stadium. 

The sold-out dates, each attended by 90,000 “Bootleggers” (the name affectionately given to his fans), were Wembley's first to feature a solo country musician as the headline act. Combs’ 23-date sixth headline tour went ahead in support of his sixth studio album, The Way I Am, featuring the singles “Back in the Saddle”, “Sleepless in a Hotel Room” and “Be By You”. 

Combs also holds two more Guinness World Records titles: 

• Most consecutive No.1 singles on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart from debut – 5: “Hurricane” (27 May 2017), “When It Rains It Pours” (4 November 2017), “One Number Away” (9 June 2018), “She Got the Best of Me” (27 October 2018) and “Beautiful Crazy” (2 March 2019). 

• Most consecutive No.1 singles on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart from one album – 7: “Beer Never Broke My Heart” (10 August 2019), “Even Though I’m Leaving” (23 November 2019), “Does to Me” (feat. Eric Church; 30 May 2020), “Lovin’ On You” (5 September 2020), “Better Together” (23 January 2021), “Forever After All” (5 June 2021) and “Cold as You” (27 November 2021).

Official Adjudicator Will Munford was on hand backstage to present Combs with all three of his GWR certificates before he began the second night of his run of shows at Wembley. 

Will said: “Luke is truly a superstar of country music and three sell-out nights at Wembley Stadium showcase his reach and transcendent ability beyond the genre.”

Combs’ accolades extend far beyond his three GWR titles, however.  

He is a well-decorated musician with multiple major industry awards, notably taking home 11 titles during his career at the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards, including: Album of the Year for his third studio album Growin’ Up in 2022, and Single of the Year with his cover of “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman in 2023, which was also nominated for a Grammy award.
