Inside the hilariously wild record-breaking world of Mr Cherry
General chaos and mad tomfoolery is the only way we can describe Mr Cherry’s visit to GWR HQ.
The prolific Japanese record breaker stopped by our office in London, UK, recently, ahead of his (sadly unsuccessful) appearance in the Britain’s Got Talent semi-finals.
As staff vacated their desks to gather round, he put on a little show, demonstrating the skills that have led to him breaking so many records and winning huge social media fame, which included opening a bottle of prosecco with his bum cheeks if you can believe it!
What can we say, our office is pretty fun!
So in honour of Mr Cherry’s wild ways, we thought we’d have a bit of a deep dive into his history of record breaking.
At the time of writing, he has 13 records to his name, but who can say how many more he’s attempted even just in the time it’s taken me to write this sentence?

First up, all the way back in 2014, the comedian also known as Cherry Yoshitake appeared on our kids’ TV show Officially Amazing, where he smashed the most dried peas moved using a straw in 30 seconds.

He did 29, and 14 years later, no one out there has taken his crown!
Cherry returned in 2016 to equal the record for most marbles moved with chopsticks in one minute (43) that had been set by Silvio Sabba (Italy) two years earlier.

He also claimed the fastest 20 m relay balancing a balloon on the face (team of two) alongside Raymond 'US Ray' Butler (USA) with a time of 19.77 seconds.

The following year, Cherry continued his record-breaking ways.

During a visit to Glasgow, Scotland, he broke the record for longest duration to spin a fidget spinner on the nose by doing it for 8 min 49 sec.
Just a couple of days later, he did the fastest 10 m backwards heel to toe walk in 15.871 sec.

In 2018, Mr Cherry tested the durability of biscuits (cookies for the Americans) to achieve the longest time to dunk a biscuit on the set of La Notte dei Record in Italy.
His dunk lastest 5 min 17.1 sec and for those looking to up their dunking game, it was a Katapan, which basically translates to “hard biscuit”. Seems it lived up to its name.

2020 was a busy year for Mr Cherry, who still holds four records he broke that year:
- Most kisses in one minute by a pair - 277 with Kumiko Shiratori (Japan)
- Fastest time to remove five Jenga blocks with a party blower in the nose - 46.96 sec
- Most nuts crushed by sitting down in one minute - 122
- Most marshmallows caught with chopsticks in one minute by a team of two – 90 with Hideaki Kanehara (Japan)
The year after that, he appeared on TV show Non Stop! In Japan to claim the title for most desk call bells rung with the chin with a total of 149.
A few months later, he retired to achieve the most pairs of boxer briefs pulled on in 30 seconds with 17.
His most recent record-breaking adventure came in 2022 when he appeared on TV’s Lo Show dei Record in Italy.
This time around, he clocked the fastest time to move 10 egg yolks with chopsticks in a time of 1 min 51 sec.
With so many random skills in his arsenal and so many wild records already to his name, exactly what will Mr Cherry do next?
