Happy Social Media Day!

30 June is a day marked around the world, recognizing the massive impact that digital platforms like YouTube, Instagram and Facebook have had on global communication.

Thanks to platforms like these, it’s easier than ever for us to connect with people on the other side of the world... without even having to travel.

To celebrate, let’s take a look at some of our most popular social videos posted so far this year…

Are they the MOST flexible people in the world?

You’ve really been loving this YouTube video featuring the world’s most flexible people.

From contortionists to circus performers and all the bendy people in between, they can bend, flex, stand on their own heads and do the sort of moves most of us would find impossible to achieve.

Among those featured is Eddie John Browne (Sierra Leone) aka Eddie Flexible, who broke the record for most consecutive full body revolutions with a backbend handstand (male) with a total of 21.

The UK’s Liberty Barros can also be seen breaking the record for fastest 20-m backbend knee-lock walk in just 22.53 seconds.

Record-breaking drone show

This drone show from China captured a lot of attention!

Created by Guangdong EHang Egret Media Technology Co., Ltd., it became the most multirotors/drones airborne simultaneously from a single computer (outdoors) with a total of 22,580.

The drones flew around and shifted into various stunning images, from the traditional to the modern.

Shopkins collection

You’ve also been rather intrigued by this largest collection of Shopkins memorabilia.

It’s owned by Alexa Szerstuk (Australia) and made up of 2,656 unique items.

Largest tape measure

This gigantic tape measure by artist Ali Spagnola has been getting a lot of attention on Facebook.

At 0.87 m in length, 0.80 m in height and 0.56 m in width, it is indeed the largest tape measure in the world.

It was made by Ali, Davis DeWitt and Tyler Reece (all USA).

These kids are record breakers

Record breaking is for people of all ages, as demonstrated by the incredibly cool kids featured in this YouTube video.

These youngsters are seen showing off the unique skills that saw them declared Officially Amazing.

Among them are maths whiz Aryan Shukla (India), who has numerous records including fastest time to mentally add 200 four-digit numbers (1 min 9.68 sec), and skateboarder Ema Kawakami (Japan), who performed the most backside 540 skateboard tricks in one minute (13).

Colour-identifying parrot

Heading over to Instagram, our followers couldn’t get enough of this clever little parrot.

Xiaogui, trained by Qin Feng (China), broke the record for fastest time to identify 10 colours by a parrot.

In just 33.50 seconds, he picked up 10 little wicker balls and correctly deposited them in bins of the same colour.

As ever, our socials have been very random and very fun so far this year. Who knows what else we’ll see in the second half of 2026!
