Armenian woman "proud" to represent her country after doing the most squats in a minute
An Armenian fitness fanatic has added to her growing list of world records by performing an impressive number of squats.
Mari Davtyan claimed records for the most squats in one minute (female) – 84 - and the most squats in three minutes (female) – 170 – while standing on top of the Talin Fortress, in Aragatsotn, Armenia, last August.
Surrounded by picturesque scenery and with support from her coach, multi-Guinness World Records title holder Roman Sahradyan, Mari has been putting her fitness to the ultimate test.
The 21-year-old journalist and dancer said: “My coach Roman inspired me to set these records with his example. It is very important for me to represent the flag of Armenia on international platforms.”

While working out at the Hi-Am Dyucaznatun Sports Center, Mari has witnessed several records being broken by other athletes and fitness fans.
She turned to Roman, Director-Coach of the centre, which is a charitable foundation, for help and he put her on a training regime that saw her claiming titles after just a few months.

Squats are an integral part of her training, so it only made sense that she’d attempt to be the best in the world at them.
For anyone struggling to hit their own squat count, Mari said: “My best advice is that to achieve your goal, you need to train hard and consistently.

“If it hurts, then you will achieve your goal. And as my coach would say, ‘the end justifies the means’.”
Mari said she was very happy and excited to find out she’d officially broken these records, but she’s not done yet.
She has many more pending applications and had already broken the most rope skips on a trampoline in one minute (female) with a total of 118 when she took on her squats challenge.
Her dream is to break more world records than any other woman.
