Best friends race across New Delhi to smash record for most libraries visited in one day
Do you enjoy reading? Because some people certainly take it to the next level!
On 10 December 2025, Sujoy Kumar Mitra and Prateek Choraria (both India) broke a Guinness World Records title of most libraries visited in 24 hours together.
In just one day, this duo managed to attend 42 libraries across New Delhi, India.

Sujoy and Prateek are both business owners who work in the travel and construction industries. They first attempted to break this record in April 2025, visiting 61 libraries. However, the attempt could not be verified as it did not meet the official guidelines.
Sujoy is a passionate traveller, who has visited all countries of the United Nations, and achieved 14 Guinness World Records titles in the past – 11 of them still stand today, with three surpassed by other record holders. One of his signature titles is the fastest time to visit the Seven Wonders of the World, which took him just over five days!
But he shared that this new record required even more effort and dedication than his previous ones.

“It took 60 days to meet librarians, submit request letters for approval and wait for the official approval from authorities,” Sujoy shared. “This was a tough record to attempt as we can't just buy a ticket and enter the establishment – without proper approvals, security wouldn't entertain us.”
Running around the city and relying on public transportation was not easy, but the friends stayed determined and excited for this opportunity to show the world how knowledgeable New Delhi can be.

“The central idea behind the record was to raise awareness of the available knowledge bank in our city,” Sujoy said.
Both travellers were hoping to send a bigger message with this record. Sujoy says that some of the libraries visited are open 24/7, offering young people a safe space to read and study.
He said that he is hoping for his eight-year-old son, Rahyl, to start reading less internet literature and more physical books, and he is encouraging the new generation to utilize opportunities to read at local libraries.
Knowledge is power, and New Delhi shows that it truly has no limit.
