As if winning the Stanley Cup – the championship trophy of the NHL – isn’t exciting enough, Florida Panthers assistant equipment manager Dakota King (USA) decided to add another exciting accolade to his record-breaking summer with a brand new Guinness World Records title.

After donning 40 Panthers jerseys at once, and turning himself into the veritable size of the Michelin Man, the lifelong ice hockey enthusiast won this amusing record for the most ice hockey jerseys worn at once on 29 August 2024 – with a key witness being the Stanley Cup itself.

On a boat off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA, Dakota and his friends took on the challenge next to the shining silver trophy and two witnesses from the Hockey Hall of Fame, officially cementing his place in hockey history (and the record books).

“I wanted to celebrate the sport in a unique way by breaking this record,” explained Dakota to GWR.

“This attempt was inspired by my passion for hockey and the team's historic Stanley Cup victory.”

When the team was off celebrating their 2024-2025 NHL Championship win, Dakota took the chance to tackle the unique title by borrowing 40 team jerseys – 40 red and 19 white – and bringing them to the boat for a record-breaking trip around Florida.

With the help of assistant Pierce Vickers, the pair began pulling jerseys over Dakota’s head – gradually switching to larger-sized sweaters, and eventually goalie gear, as his arms and chest swelled to comically large sizes.

Soon enough, Dakota’s mission was complete, and he was finally covered in all 40 jerseys.

Wearing enough shirts for an entire hockey roster, the assistant manager looked as large as Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky (and we’d love to see him take to the ice in this outfit for his next record-breaking adventure).

Nevertheless, he and his pals clearly had a blast breaking the record – especially when it was time to take them all off again!

Once Dakota was finally freed, the group celebrated his new accomplishment with the Stanley Cup, and finished their record-breaking boat trip around the coastal city.

And we’re sure that he is thrilled to know he is one of the few people with their names engraved on that iconic trophy, as well as in our record books.
