Trumpeter who broke record with 25-hour concert says "dreams are worth fighting for"
A Nigerian musician is hoping to inspire others to chase their dreams after playing his trumpet for a record amount of time.
Joshua Olusanya, known online as the “Trumpet Influencer”, played for 25 hr 30 min 36 sec to earn the title for longest marathon playing the trumpet on 9 May.
His mammoth effort was all about bringing recognition to musicians, promoting music education and inspiring people around the world to chase their dreams.
Joshua, who livestreamed his record attempt on YouTube, told us: “Through my achievement, I hope to inspire others with a simple yet powerful message, ‘Remember, your dreams are worth fighting for.’
I believe that with determination, perseverance, and resilience, anyone can overcome obstacles and achieve their goals, no matter how daunting they may seem.
Joshua, a musician, music educator and band director, has been playing trumpet for 14 years, but says his passion for his instrument still continues to grow.
“What I love most about playing the trumpet is the freedom it gives me to express myself creatively,” he explained.
“Its versatility across genres and ability to convey emotions through its expressive sound make it an ideal outlet for my creativity.”

As the Trumpet Influencer, Joshua says he is passionate about advocating for the recognition of instrumental musicians, who he says often go unsung.
He said: “We are the heartbeat of music, providing the rhythm, harmony, and melody that bring joy and inspiration to others.”
Taking on this record-breaking challenge felt like a natural next step in his mission.
Getting there was a lot of work, with Joshua even taking on the attempt twice after his first was disqualified.

To get ready, he practised through the night with his band, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., three times a week.
Joshua explained: “While it was challenging to adapt to this unconventional schedule, my body eventually adjusted after a couple of months.
“However, my preparation went beyond just technical proficiency. I prioritized mental training, recognizing that mental toughness and focus would be crucial in achieving this feat.
“I cultivated a strong mindset, I was able to overcome physical fatigue and stay motivated throughout my preparation.
“Alongside my incredible band, we pushed through the night, honing our skills and building endurance.”
The attempt itself brought several challenges for Joshua, testing both his physical and mental endurance as he attempted to keep playing his trumpet for over a full calendar day.
With all marathon record attempts, he earned five minutes of rest for every hour he performed, and it was up to him how he used it.
Joshua told us: “My first attempt, although disqualified, provided invaluable experience and insight into the obstacles I needed to overcome. In my second attempt, I was better prepared to tackle the technical and physical demands of prolonged trumpet playing.

“However, a significant setback occurred when my lips suffered severe fatigue and injury, causing substantial pain. The prospect of quitting was tempting, but I drew upon my mental reserves and perseverance to push through this critical moment.”
Joshua said that keeping his energy levels up enough to keep playing for 25 hours was mentally tough.
He said that while physical practice is essential, it had also been important for him to train his mind to “overcome fatigue, pain, and self-doubt”.
On why he decided to go again after having his first attempt disqualified, he said: “Firstly, I wanted to demonstrate resilience and determination by bouncing back from the setback of my first attempt. Secondly, I aimed to inspire others to pursue their passions with unwavering dedication.

As I often say, ‘Remember, your dreams are worth fighting for.’ This mantra echoed in my mind throughout the attempt, fuelling my resolve to push beyond perceived limits and achieve the impossible.
Joshua was thrilled when he found out his record attempt was a success, and says he’s proud and honoured to help put Nigeria on the map.
He wishes to express his gratitude to Dr Daniel Kolawole Olukoya, the General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, for gifting him his first ever trumpet and offering his unwavering support and guidance.
“His selfless act sparked a passion within me, driving me to push beyond boundaries and pursue my dreams,” Joshua said.
