A school teacher broke a record with his fastest 100 m to show the kids at his school they can achieve anything.

But before you picture him out-pacing GWR ICON Usain Bolt, you should know he crawled that distance on his hands and knees.

Tom Dalton (UK) claimed the record for fastest 100 m crawling (male) with a blistering time of just 39.70 seconds.

The 31-year-old broke the previous record of 55.40 sec, set in 2019 by Eamonn Hickson (Ireland).

Usain would be proud.

Tom took on the challenge on a racing track in Worcester, Worcestershire, on 12 July, with a crowd of family, friends and even his pupils cheering him on from the sidelines.

He told his supporters on the day: “During lockdown I suddenly realized I could crawl quite quickly and my brother challenged me to beat the current record, and I beat it quite considerably… unofficially.

“Let’s make this official.”

Tom’s record attempt came after he took on 35 challenges in 35 days to raise money for the MS Society.

He’d done the crawl then in 42.3 seconds so knew it was possible for him to officially nab the accolade for himself.

He told us: “My main aim is to have a sense of self pride and give the children I teach a sense that they can do anything they set their minds on.”

With the crowd revving him up, Tom smashed his personal best to claim the glory he’d been craving.

He excitedly announced: “I can proudly pronounce that I did complete the world record and I did it quicker than I have ever done it before.

“So I am super, duper proud.”

You should be, Tom. Well done.
