Rollercoaster superfan Dean Stokes had already set himself the gruelling challenge of riding every single rollercoaster across the UK and Ireland when he decided to up the stakes and attempt a Guinness World Records title for the most rollercoasters ridden in one week as part of his adventures.

After battling the unpredictable British summer weather and travel plans with more twists and turns than The Smiler, Dean was able to set the record with an adrenaline-pumping 55 rollercoasters.

So, what inspires someone to take on such a task? We were lucky enough to speak with the man himself about his quest as we presented him his official record-holder certificate.

GWR: Where did your love for rollercoasters come from?

Dean: I visited my first theme park as a teenager and quickly realized I loved the adrenaline rush! I enjoy finding new theme parks to visit and taking in the whole ambiance from theming, the music and through to the rides themselves.

GWR: What was your favourite rollercoaster you visited for the attempt?

Dean: This is a tough one to answer because there are so many ways to score a rollercoaster! For the overall experience and focusing on fun, I'd have to pick Icon at Blackpool Pleasure Beach!

GWR: What challenges did you run into during the record attempt?

Dean: There are three that come to mind! Whilst the weather overall was the best of British summer, Storm Floris scuppered my plans on days three and four causing rides to stop running and two different theme parks to close unexpectedly. Without that, my record would have reached well over 60 roller coasters! Secondly, the sheer number of miles between everything! Lastly, editing a video at the end of every day added a whole separate challenge.

GWR: What do you hope will come from this record achievement?

Dean: I hope it inspires more people to unapologetically spend time doing more of what they love. Let's feel less embarrassed about what brings us joy and instead share the happiness our hobbies and interests bring ourselves and others.

GWR: Finally, how does it feel to be an official Guinness World Records title holder?

Dean: Surreal! I didn't set out to set a record, just to do something fun and share it online. I'm proud to be the inaugural record holder and now I want to see other enthusiasts give this a go - so consider this my challenge to you all! I'm ready to hand over the baton!
