Ever have to wait three hours for a pizza delivery?

Well, next time you can tell the company that someone could’ve ran it there faster – Mike Cole, that is!

This runner and pizza shop owner took a 16 in pie along with him in a box while he ran the Mill Race Marathon in Columbus, Indiana, USA, on 28 September last year – and even finished in 3 hr and 14 min, placing 10th amongst the male participants.

So in addition to taking a pizza and a medal home after his race, he also took home a Guinness World Records title for fastest marathon carrying a pizza (male).

Mike is an avid runner, who usually finishes marathons in under three hours. But he claimed carrying the pizza box made the process “90% harder”, as it weighed him down, and even needed some extra plastic protection when the rain started to fall.

Nevertheless his loved ones were there to cheer him on during the race, and he was able to finish his marathon in under four hours, which was the minimum requirement for the record.

And when Mike crossed the rain-slicked finish line in only 3 hr 14 min 4 sec, he raised the box triumphantly, later revealing that the 16 in cheese pie from his local shop Greek’s Pizzeria was remarkably still intact!

We have no doubt he’ll continue to keep running in the future, as last year he completed 12 marathons in 12 months. Only next time, we hope he saves a slice for us!
