With a droopy grin and a habit of jumping like a kangaroo, Ozzy – a French and Bull mastiff mix – is the perfect dog for the fun-loving Pick family in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA

And after four years of being a beloved pet, the adorable mastiff has made his way into the record books (and Santa Paws' nice list!) just in time for the holidays with his incredible tongue.

Ozzy broke the Guinness World Records title for the longest tongue on a living dog this year for his 7.83 in (19.89 cm) long appendage, which usually hangs out the side of his mouth or is used to catch toys and lap up his food.

With those seven inches of organ, Ozzy was able to beat out the prior record held by Rocky the dog from Bloomington, Illinois with his 5 in (12.7 cm) tongue – as well as the human record holders Chanel Tapper (USA; 3.8 in, 9.75 cm) and Nick Stoeberl (USA; 3.97 in, 10.1 cm) for their longest tongue on a female and male.

Ozzy’s owner, Angela Pick, said the family was delightfully surprised to find out their dog was a record holder, after they brought him for a routine nail trim and his veterinarians took the opportunity to measure his giant tongue from the end of his snout to the tip.

“He has always had a tongue that sticks out of his mouth, ever since he was born,” Angela explained.

“But there’s nothing medically wrong with him, we’ve had him looked at a couple of times by a veterinarian, and there’s no dental issues or anything – it’s just abnormally, awkwardly long!”

The Pick family has had Ozzy ever since he was a puppy, and they’ve watched as his tongue grew bigger along with his body and paws.

Yet surprisingly, they say that Ozzy rarely uses his tongue for giving sloppy kisses or cleaning crumbs off the floor – with Angela commenting that: “It’s funny, for his tongue to be the way that it is, he doesn’t really lick a whole lot.

“He doesn’t give kisses – he gets in your face and kind of loves and rubs noses, but he doesn’t really lick on a lot of stuff!”

Instead, the mastiff prefers to spend his time playing in the yard with his family, going for car rides, and jumping up and down like a bunny when he’s excited.

“Just with his personality, you could kind of tell with his great nature that he’d be a really good fit for our family,” said Angela.

“He’s extremely lazy, but he’s very active at the same time, which is crazy. He goes outside and hops around like a kangaroo,” she continued.

“He’s very playful when he knows he’s supposed to. Sometimes he doesn’t know his size, but he knows that he can’t tackle us either because he’s bigger than us!”

With such a big tongue to support, it’s clear that Ozzy needs a ton of food to get him through the day – and Angela estimates that he devours roughly half a pitcher of dog food daily.

He eats a high-activity dog food, which they’ve found is the best thing for his diet – both for gaining a healthy amount of weight, but it’s also a soft food that’s easy for him to eat with his tongue!

And every time the adorable pup goes out in public, his giant tongue is always the topic of conversation, delighting both children and adults.

Angela says that whenever strangers see his fabulous floppy grin, it puts an “automatic smile on people’s faces.”

They also said it’s “super-duper exciting” that Ozzy finally is getting appreciation for his marvelous tongue, as they’re finally able to share their love for their pet with the entire world.
