Laura Biondo inspires young girls everywhere to pursue their dreams – one football trick, and world record, at a time.

The international athlete and serial record breaker from Venezuela recently visited our London headquarters to attempt two more record titles, the most around the moon football control tricks in 30 seconds and most football clipper tricks in one minute.

Despite having collected over 15 record titles, she’s nowhere near ready to stop.

“I want to keep breaking records because I think it’s a way to motivate others, especially young girls, to put themselves to the test, try different things and pursue their dreams,” she told us.

Biondo started playing when she was 10 years old, encouraged by her older brother, and quickly rose to national and international fame, becoming the only Latin American to be crowned world champion and the best-ranked Latin American in the history of freestyle.

Describing her mindset ahead of the first attempt of the day, Laura said: “Strategy-wise, just stay focused – don’t really think too much on the number, just focus on the technique, keep the movement consistent and hopefully it’s going to be all good!”

Our Official Adjudicator, Emma Salt, was on hand to witness the attempt. She explained that for the most around the moon football control tricks in 30 seconds, the minimum number to beat was 14 – and the ball must not touch the ground or any other part of the body during the attempt.

After a tense 30 seconds, Biondo was overjoyed to hear she had achieved 27 around the moon tricks, surpassing her goal of 20 and officially claiming the record as her own.

Receiving her record certificate, Biondo pointed out that her record is only two tricks short of the men’s record.

“Maybe I’ll beat the men’s record in the future,” she commented.

Then it was time for her second attempt of the day, the most football clipper tricks in one minute.

“This is my favourite trick,” Biondo noted, “so I kind of hold this record dear to my heart.”

Before starting her attempt, she demonstrated the trick and gave us a few tips on how to achieve it.

Biondo used to hold this record title back in 2017, but had since lost it and, in order to claim it back, she had to surpass the current record of 46.

The attempt was going impressively well until, at the 25th second, an unlucky slip caused Biondo to drop the ball.

“I forgot that, for this record, I could actually recover it, so automatically I was like ‘Failed attempt’,” she explained.

But, like everyone else, she was allowed two more attempts, and she dove straight back in. Even though the second one went much better, she knew she could do even more – so she went in for a third and final try.

“I knew it was going to be hard and I wanted the challenge,” the freestyler said.

“I sprained this ankle last year, had surgery in January, and I thought I lost this trick.

“The moment I started recovering, it was like a gut feeling that said ‘You have to push it to be able to overcome than mental barrier of your ankle’, so not only because it is my favourite trick but also not allowing the mind to just surrender to something that you might think is like an end point, you know?

“So I’m very grateful that you’re allowing me to do this.”

In a moment of triumph for Biondo and everyone watching, Salt announced that she had completed 48 tricks, therefore reclaiming the coveted title.

Congratulations, you are Officially Amazing!
