Female artists set for records glory after dominating 2025 Grammy Awards nominations
Female artists look set to dominate the 67th Annual Grammy Awards.
The likes of Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Sabrina Carpenter could also extend their record-breaking status if they pick up the gongs they’re nominated for.
The 2025 Grammys are set to take place on Sunday 2 February at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, with comedian Trevor Noah acting as host.
This year’s event will support relief efforts following the devastating wildfires in LA.
Ahead of the star-studded ceremony, we asked GWR’s long-time music consultant Matthew White to take a look at any world records that could be broken…
✨ Returning as host, the GRAMMY nominee @TrevorNoah is set to take us into Music's Biggest Night to honor music and amplify support for the music community impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires.

Album of the Year
Taylor Swift currently holds the record for most Album of the Year awards won at the Grammys (female) with a total of four – Midnights (2002), folklore (2021), 1989 (2016) and Fearless (2010).
She’ll extend her record to five if she wins again with The Tortured Poets Department.
She could also become the fifth performing artist to win Album of the Year for two consecutive years (following Midnights in 2024), after Frank Sinatra in 1966-67, Stevie Wonder in 1974-75, Lauryn Hill in 1999-2000 and Bruno Mars in 2017-18.
Taylor could also extend the record of Romanian engineer/mixer Șerban Ghenea for most Album of the Year awards won at the Grammys to six if she wins with TTPD.
Șerban’s record will also be extended if Sabrina Carpenter wins with Short n’ Sweet.
Mastering engineer Randy Merrill could also be made a record breaker by a couple of female artists.
His number of wins would equal Șerban’s five if it’s Chappel Roan who wins with The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
Song of the Year
The record for most consecutive Song of the Year awards won at the Grammys (two, by Dernst “D’Mile” Emile II in 2021-22) will be matched by Billie Eilish and her brother FINNEAS O’Connell if the award goes to Billie’s “Birds of a Feather”, after their 2024 triumph with “What Was I Made For?”.
Billie, FINNEAS, “D’Mile” (for Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die with a Smile”) and Bruno himself (for the same track) are all going for most Grammys won for Song of the Year with what would be their third win.
Best New Artist
A new mark will be set for the most consecutive Best New Artist Grammys won by a solo female artist (eight, from 2018-25) should Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, RAYE or Chappell Roan take the honour.
They would follow Alessia Cara (2018), Dua Lipa (2019), Billie Eilish (2020), Megan Thee Stallion (2021), Olivia Rodrigo (2022), Samara Joy (2023) and Victoria Monét (2024) to the winners’ podium.
Interestingly, Sabrina and Chappell are the only two artists nominated in all four “General Field” categories.
They're the 14th and 15th artists in Grammys history to achieve the feat at a single edition and they have a chance to join a select list of artists who have won all four awards (Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist) on the same night.
Christopher Cross did it in 1981 and Billie Eilish in 2020, while Adele has collected the full set at separate ceremonies (in 2009 and 2012).
Most Grammys won
The male (Michael Jackson, eight wins), female (Beyoncé and Adele, six wins) and overall (Michael Jackson and Santana, eight wins) records for the most Grammys won in a single night are potentially under threat in 2025 from Beyoncé (11 nominations), Charli XCX (eight nominations) and Post Malone (eight nominations).
Beyoncé is also looking to extend her all-time record for the most Grammys won, which stands at 32 ahead of the 2025 ceremony.
Best Alternative Music Album
St. Vincent (b. Anne Clark) is the only solo female to win Best Alternative Music Album twice (St Vincent in 2015 and Daddy's Home in 2022).
If she wins again this year with All Born Screaming she’ll extend her record for most Grammy awards won for Best Alternative Music Album (female) to three.
St. Vincent could join Fiona Apple (2021) and Brandi Carlile (2023) as the only solo females to win Best Rock Performance, and will become only the third female soloist - after Alanis Morissette in 1996 and 1999 and Brittany Howard in 2016 (with Alabama Shakes) and 2021 - to win Best Rock Song twice.
St. Vincent previously took the prize for "Masseduction" in 2019. Until recently, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance were both traditionally male-dominated categories at the Grammys.
Music expert Matthew told us: “The 67th Grammy Awards is shaping up to be another outstanding night for solo females, with Beyoncé, Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan and Taylor Swift among the contenders vying for the biggest prizes, and Ariana Grande (Pop/Dance), St. Vincent (Rock/Alternative), Muni Long (R&B), Kacey Musgraves (Country) and Anitta (Latin), to name but a few, expecting to add to their haul of trophies.
“There has surely never been a better time to be a woman in the music industry, as they continue to push boundaries, break records and stack up awards at every opportunity. It will be more of the same in Los Angeles on 2 February.”
Without the music community, the Recording Academy would not exist. We are most powerful when we come together in support. ❤️
