YouTube star CaffeineMan breaks record with passion for collecting energy drinks

Cheers to energy drink aficionado Joel Spears officially becoming a record breaker!
The YouTuber, known as CaffeineMan, owns the world’s largest collection of energy drink cans – a whopping 1,019 of them.
And Joel, of Rhode Island, USA, says he’s already added around another 100 cans to his total since it was counted up in January.
The 50-year-old, who is the first to break this record, has been a fan of energy drinks since Red Bull first hit shelves in America.
“I’ll let you do your own research to see how long ago that was,” he joked.
“As time went on and more energy drinks came out I felt that there was a lack of in-depth reviews on energy drinks and decided to give YouTube a shot, going over a topic that I thoroughly enjoyed, as well as teaching people about caffeine safety because that’s also something that’s important to me.”
Joel’s channel has almost 50,000 subscribers and has seen him build relationships with many of the big energy drink companies, who send him their latest products in return for some honest reviews.
He’s also regularly sent cans by his fans, who get in touch to do exchanges of drinks they each have available exclusively in their areas.
“I’ve become somewhat well-known in the energy drink market because I have such a niche audience with the videos that I do,” Joel told us.
His collection is arranged on shelves in their own dedicated room in his home, a room that doubles as his YouTube studio.
The cans are all empty though, as Joel explained how one day he discovered that some of them had sprung a leak and damaged the shelves they were standing on.
He said: “They’re stacked up pretty high so I don’t need that whole thing coming down on me during a review therefore I needed to empty out all the drinks in the collection.”
As well as reviews of energy drinks, Joel also posts informational videos about health concerns, how much caffeine people should intake and how long it lasts in your system.
He says energy drinks have evolved a lot over the decades they’ve been on the market, and that there’s something to suit every person.
He explained: “There are a lot of supplement companies out there making healthier energy drinks, making sugar free energy drinks to help you work out.
“And with all these companies making healthier energy drinks, it’s getting rid of that stereotype that all energy drinks are bad for you and there seems to be something for everyone now.”
Joel drinks one or two energy drinks a day and admits people are often shocked when they learn that.
But he joked that people who express their shock are often holding a large coffee and have “no idea” how much caffeine they’re drinking.
On how it feels to have the record, he said: “It’s amazing. I never thought that I would hold a record for anything but it just goes to show if you’re passionate about something and you keep at it and don’t let anything get you down, no matter how hard it is to do, keep going and you can achieve great things like a Guinness World Records title.
“There have been several times throughout my YouTube career that I’ve thought about stopping my channel because my subscriber count has just dropped, dropped each year.
But fans of the channel encourage me to keep going and I love what I do. I get to drink energy drinks and share them with the world and because of that I’m now a world record holder.
