Spicy speed eater Mike Jack put his taste buds to the ultimate test when he took on the most hot sauce eaten in three minutes.

The Canadian YouTuber managed 1.12 kg (2 lb 7 oz) of the hot stuff during a recent record-breaking visit to Guinness World Records HQ in London.

That’s heavier than two soccer balls, that weigh around 450 g each.

Mike got ready for his attempt by emptying two bottles of sriracha sauce into a bowl and arming himself with a tea spoon.

With his wife, and coach, Jamie by his side to cheer him on, Mike dug straight in, scooping up the spicy sauce as quickly as he could.

Reflecting on his attempt later, he said: “A lot of people say, ‘Your butt must burn a lot after you did that challenge’.

“I’ve actually never experienced burn-butt before.”

He joked: “It’s a genetic mutation.  It’s my super power, I guess.”

Mike, who broke this record on the same day he smashed the fastest time to drink a Capri Sun (paper straw) in 21.71 seconds, says his obsession with spicy stuff started when he was in college.

After searching for increasingly hotter sauces, he eventually found himself using condiments made from the world’s hottest peppers the same way someone would use ketchup.

Mike’s YouTube Channel, Mike Jack Eats Heat!, came about after friends told him that eating hot peppers online had become a very popular form of entertainment.

He explained: “I ate my first one and I did pretty good, it was hot but I thought I could eat more so I just kept making videos, eating more and more to see how many I could eat and eventually people were asking me if these were Guinness World Records titles.

“I really didn’t know so I started looking up records and picked a few I thought I could beat, practised up and started beating them.”

But while his content may be popular, Mike said there are still a lot of people who don’t understand why he does what he does.

He said: “A common question I get asked in the comments section of my videos when I’m doing Guinness World Records attempts is why am I putting myself through this, why am I eating these spicy peppers and stuff.

“And I just tell them, ‘Why wouldn’t you want to break a Guinness World Records title?’”

When the three minutes ran out, the bowl Mike had been eating from looked way more empty than when he began, with a clear hot sauce line around the inside.

“That’s too much sauce,” he laughed, adding that he had “flavour fatigue”.

And he said that part of his technique is imagining he’s eating one of his favourite dishes – pumpkin pie.

Guinness World Records Adjudicator Juliet Dawson told Mike his attempt was some of the most “intense” record-breaking action she’d ever seen.

This was a new record title with a minimum of 300 g to beat, which Mike more than tripled.

“That’s more than I thought I would do,” Mike confessed. “I’m glad I beat this record ‘cause that was a nasty one.

“That was rough on the body, for sure.”

Mike holds multiple eating records and also previously held the fastest time to drink a bottle of hot sauce with a time of 8.56 seconds.
