A skilled cyclist broke a record by keeping his front wheel off the ground for more than double the length of Hoover Dam.

Dawid Piwowarczyk (Poland) performed the longest bicycle manual at an incredible distance of 823.60 m (2,702 ft) in Kraków, Poland, on 25 July.

A manual is a technique for keeping the front wheel off the ground while rolling on the rear wheel.

It’s not quite the same as a wheelie as you don’t pedal.

That means Dawid had to be going fast enough to build up enough momentum to keep him rolling over the long distance.

He hit a top speed of 33.24 mph (53.51 km/h).

Dawid has been a keen street cyclist for decades and this record is important to him as the manual trick comes from his discipline.

He obliterated the previous record of 648.27 m (2126.87 ft).

“I’ve been riding a bike for about 20 years, I have been training in calisthenics for about 13 years. For me, street discipline basically means the style,” he explained.

“It’s not only doing as many tricks as possible, it’s a kind of way to express and evolve myself.”

Dawid used a custom-built bike without any brakes for his attempt.

He said: “With help of the professionals, we’ve managed to prepare this bike to be the - probably - fastest bike in the world in its discipline.”

Dawid has made lots of modifications to his bike, including building a new rear wheel on a very heavy rim to extend the rotation time and give it more spin.

But his dedication extended way beyond crafting the perfect bike.

He said: “My personal training to this record took about one year. I was playing with a bike around my discipline and doing some tricks based on the manual just to improve the handling skills of the bike under the high speed and the wind.”
