Axe thrower reclaims farthest distance record with jaw-dropping toss from over 140 ft

An American man has reclaimed his farthest distance axe throw record by hitting the target from a jaw-dropping distance.
Jesse Rood threw his axe an impressive 43.58 m (143 ft).
That’s more than twice the length of a bowling alley from the pins to the foul line.
Jesse originally broke the record in 2022, with a throw of 27.20 m (89 ft 2 in).
His record was broken in 2023 by Simone Freddi (Italy) with 40.10 m (131. 56 ft), and now he’s taken it back.
Jesse first got into axe throwing while spending time at a summer camp in Colorado.
And after returning to his native Nebraska, he started working in an axe bar, where he honed his skills and developed his accuracy.
“I saw the original record and knew I could set a new record,” he told us.
“My favourite thing about axe throwing is getting outside in the fresh air and doing a very repeatable action, I can make small adjustments and tweak it until I finally stick the axe.
Nothing feels better than finally sticking the axe from a pretty far distance.
On the day, Jesse warmed up by throwing the axe from around 20 ft away, gradually moving backwards and throwing it from bigger and bigger distances.
He said he was confident he’d be able to throw it a lot further than the distance he originally claimed the record from.
Jesse confessed: “When it stuck I was super excited. I had thrown a lot of throws that day getting warmed up, and that was the farthest distance I’ve ever stuck an axe.
“I was really happy about where the axe stuck in the target – it was pretty close to the bullseye, whereas my first world record, I just barely hit the target.”
Jesse loves seeing the record back in his name and says it’s always a good ice breaker when he’s asked to reveal a fun fact about himself.
He said: “It feels great and I feel accomplished to have hit my personal record of 143 ft. I hope someone else challenges me in the future so I can continue to push myself when it comes to distance for axe throwing.”
