Breaking a world record is no easy feat, and to do it at such a young age is truly phenomenal.

Five-year-old Gavin and dad Chase Lane, both from Oregon, USA, spent a special Father’s Day breaking the record for most loop-the-loops in a Hot Wheels track (supported), with a remarkable 20 loop-the-loops.

Gavin and Chase share a very strong bond. They like spending their time riding bikes and scooters together, playing with Lego and, of course, Hot Wheels.

“I have full custody [of Gavin], so I put a lot of effort into his schooling and him growing up to be a nice kid,” Chase told us.

On the day of the attempt, numerous friends and family members came together to cheer for the duo.

When Chase came across a social media post of the previous record holders, Tim Trevitt and his grandson Mason Gonzales, who achieved 19 loop-the-loops, he decided to break their record.

“I knew we had a hundred cars and we could do it,” he explained. “I had family pitch in to buy the rest of the loops we needed. I knew it would be a fun thing for us to do together!”.

In preparation for the attempt, the father and son drove around several locations to find the perfect spot.

Then they tried a few different tricks to set up the loops, adding more and more stabilizers such as cardboard and tape.

“The whole thing took about six hours,” Chase clarified.

Stabilizing the tracks was definitely a challenge but, according to him, so was getting a five-year-old to listen, help and stay focused through multiple hours of work.

Of course, little Gavin is now very happy to have broken a record.

His dance at the end of the attempt was one of my favourite moments. When I congratulated him, I teared up!

Chase is very proud of his kid, not only for his dedication to their project, but for his overall kind and loving personality.

“My son always opens doors for girls, and specifically my fiancée, every time we go home or to the car,” he told us as an example of his wonderful character.

Fast forward a few months, their record was officially approved and Gavin was proud to tell all his friends at school.

According to Chase, “Getting the official document will be a big highlight plus properly framing it with the car that we used for the record.

“We feel great, everyone is amazed that we made the effort and took the time to do this. No one we know has completed or attempted a record.”

And when we asked him if he’d consider attempting another record in the future, Chase said: “When my fiancée and I have another kid we will try to beat another record. Not sure what or when it will be but…

“I'm keeping these 20 tracks to try and add more later!”

Lastly, his advice to anyone considering attempting a record is to choose something they truly enjoy.

“Having it complete and get to hold a record just blows you away.”

Congratulations Gavin and Chase, you are Officially Amazing!
