The latest single by pop sensation Miley Cyrus (USA) has smashed the record for the most streamed track on Spotify in one week with 96,032,624 plays for the week ending 19 January 2023.
"Flowers", the first single from Cyrus’ eighth studio album Endless Summer Vacation, had over seven million more streams than the previous record holder, Adele's "Easy On Me".
Unusually, 'Flowers' gained listeners day by day throughout the tracking week. It debuted at No.3 on Spotify’s “Daily Top Songs Global” chart on 13 January with 7.7 million streams and culminated at a peak of 17.4 million – the fourth-highest number of streams for a track in 24 hours in Spotify’s history – on 19 January 2023.
Amazingly, Miley broke the record AGAIN with 115,156,896 worldwide streams on Spotify for the week ending 26 January 2023.
The song has attracted worldwide media attention for its lyrics, with some fans suggesting they give an insight into her relationship with former husband Liam Hemsworth.
It has topped the charts in the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, as well as Belgium and Switzerland despite only being released on January 13.
Streaming service Spotify released the news on social media with Miley replying to thank her 'amazing' fans.

This isn't the first world record set by Miley Cyrus, in fact she's been setting records for over 15 years.
During her teens, Cyrus charted as both herself and as TV character Hannah Montana, becoming the most charted teenager (USA) with 29 chart entries by November 2009.
She still holds the record for highest annual earnings for a child actor when, back in 2008, she earned an estimated $25 million (£12.5 million) according to Forbes.
