While participants will have their sights set on the finish line, some will also have their eyes on another accomplishment that’s sure to be OFFICIALLY AMAZING™!

Guinness World Records will be present at the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon for the tenth time since first partnering in 2010, providing record-breaking hopefuls the opportunity to take home a world record title in addition to their marathon medal.

An official Guinness World Records adjudicator will be on-site to immediately verify record attempts.

In 2019, a total of 14 Guinness World Records titles were achieved, including the fastest half marathon dressed as a fruit (male) and the fastest half marathon skipping without a rope (male).

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon was cancelled in 2020 and was hosted as a virtual event in 2021.

Every year, the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon hosts thousands of runners who choose to take part in the race by running on behalf of a charity.

Aysha Mirza (USA), who broke the Guinness World Records title at the 2019 race for the fastest half marathon dressed as a cartoon character (female), used her record attempt to spread joy and honour her friend Racheal who passed away from cancer.

In an effort to raise funds for breast cancer awareness charities, Charlie Molina (Canada) broke a record for the fastest half marathon in a martial arts suit (male), crossing the finish line in 1 hour, 27 minutes, and 3 seconds. Applications are now open for runners interested in attempting a Guinness World Records title.

Runners must be registered to participate in the 2022 TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon before applying for a Guinness World Records title. All applications must be submitted to Guinness World Records by 6pm EST on 2 September 2022.

A charity partner is not required to attempt a Guinness World Records title, but it is certainly welcomed.

Ready to make history but not sure which record to attempt? Some fun record titles that have yet to be set include:

  • Fastest marathon with three runners handcuffed together (mixed)
  • Fastest half marathon crawling
  • Fastest half marathon barefoot
  • Fastest half marathon blindfolded (female)
  • Fastest half marathon dressed as a fairy
  • Fastest half marathon running with an egg and spoon

In addition to existing full and half marathon record categories, Guinness World Records welcomes new record ideas; runners looking to apply for a new record category that is not currently listed in the Guinness World Records database should submit their ideas to Press@GuinnessWorldRecords.com.

Canada Running Series reserves the right to deny entry into the 2022 TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon if the costume is deemed to be inappropriate or violate health and safety regulations.
