Have you ever wondered how big can a rolex be?

In Uganda, YouTuber Raymond Kahuma created the largest Ugandan rolex ever, weighing a record-breaking 204.6 kg (451 lb).

However, if your mind immediately went to the luxury wristwatch, think again: the rolex we are talking about is going to make your mouth water.

As a popular saying goes: "In Uganda we don't wear rolex, we eat them".

Rolex is the short version of "rolled eggs" and is a popular Ugandan street food, especially in urban areas.

It can be found in stalls, and it takes between ten and fifteen minutes to prepare.

This delicacy is traditionally composed of a fried omelet and a filling of different vegetables rolled inside a chapati, a soft and fluffy flatbread made of wheat flour.

As confirmed on 4 November 2021, Raymond Kahuma and his team created a rolex that measured 204.6 kg (451 lb) in Kasokoso, Wakiso District, Uganda.

This oversized snack measured a whopping 2.32 metres in length and 0.66 metres at its thickest diameter.

Proportionally, this record-breaking delicacy is the equivalent of two-thousand average rolexes!

It took Kahuma and his team 14 hours and 36 minutes of kneading, frying and whisking eggs, as well as a year of preparation and a trial-and-error process to make sure that everything would go smoothly on the day.

It took 1200 eggs and two different cooking surfaces to cook the egg and the chapati without burning them

It took sixty people and a cooking surface made from scratch to complete the delicious quest.

The ingredients included:

  • 72 kg (158.733 lb) of flour
  • 90 kg (198.416 lb) of greens
  • 1,200 eggs

From the preparation and cooking of the dough to the moving and rolling of the humungous finished flatbread, it was certainly no easy task.

The team had to find a way to create a chapati bread that wouldn't break when lifted off the frying surface, which proved to be the most challenging part of this record.

But they did it, rolling the surface with the aid of film instead of lifting the dough.

After four attempts, in a testament to resilience and initiative, the team conquered the record title for the largest Ugandan rolex, raising the bar for all Ugandan rolexes!

Would you take a bite of this giant snack?
