Following the release of her 10th studio album, Midnights, on 21 October 2022, Taylor Swift has broken three records:

  • Most streamed album on Spotify in 24 hours (184.6 million streams)
  • Most day-one streams of an album on Spotify (184.6 million streams)
  • Most streamed act on Spotify in 24 hours (228 million streams)

The first two records may seem identical, however, there’s a slight distinction between them in that the first relates to any 24-hour period, whereas the second is specifically for the album’s debut day.

Both records were previously held by Drake, although he does still retain the male versions of each record. His 2021 album, Certified Lover Boy, achieved 153.4 million streams in its first 24 hours.

Before midnight of 22 October had even struck, Midnights had blown past Drake’s record. It went on to receive over 30 million more streams before the day was done. Taylor Swift’s total includes the number of streams for the standard 13-track album (161.5 million) and the additional seven songs on the "3am Edition" (23.1 million).

The 20 tracks on Midnights racked up a serious amount of streams in their first day on Spotify.

The most streamed song was "Anti-Hero", which now has the third-highest number of streams for a track in 24 hours on Spotify, with 17,390,253. The record of most streamed track on Spotify in 24 hours currently belongs to Adele’s "Easy on Me", which was streamed 19,749,704 times on 15 October 2021.

"Lavender Haze" (16.4 million streams) and "Snow on the Beach" feat. Lana Del Rey (15 million streams) came in second and third place among Swift’s new songs.

Eight older Taylor Swift tracks also registered over one million streams on the day, with favourites such as “Blank Space”, “Don’t Blame Me”, “Cruel Summer”, “august” and “Lover” adding 9.6 million more streams to her massive 24-hour total.

Altogether, Taylor Swift songs received 228 million streams on the day - a number higher than the populations of all but four countries in the world (China, India, USA and Indonesia).

This feat earned Swift the record of most streamed act on Spotify in 24 hours, which was previously held by Bad Bunny. The Puerto Rican rapper notched up 183 million streams on 6 May 2022, the release day of his album Un Verano Sin Ti (“A Summer Without You”).

Taylor Swift is no stranger to setting records. She achieved four Guinness World Records titles less than 12 months ago, following the release of Red (Taylor’s Version).

26 songs from the album charted on the Billboard Hot 100 on 27 November 2021, breaking three similar, but separate, records:

  • Most simultaneous new entries in the Hot 100
  • Most simultaneous new entries in the Hot 100 by a solo act
  • Most simultaneous new entries in the Hot 100 by a female

Her song "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)" also set a record as the longest song to reach No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The 10-minute-13-second long power ballad surpassed Don McLean’s "American Pie" (8 minutes 37 seconds) which topped the charts for four weeks in 1972.

In March 2021, Swift won Album of the Year at the Grammys for her 2020 surprise release Folklore, achieving the record for the most Album of the Year awards won at the Grammys (female).

Taylor Swift has broken over 35 Guinness World Records titles during her career so far and we've no doubt that she'll continue to break plenty more in the future!
