Family favourite Paddington 2 (UK, 2017) has achieved the record for the most positively reviewed film on Rotten Tomatoes.
It's garnered 245 positive reviews resulting in a 100% Tomatometer score on the review aggregation website, Rotten Tomatoes, as verified on 5 May 2021.
The heart-warming film is based on the fictional character Paddington Bear created by Michael Bond.
Directed by Paul King and written by King and Simon Farnaby, Paddington 2 is the sequel to the 2014 film Paddington, which has 164 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes resulting in a 97% Tomatometer score.
Paddington 2 has a star-studded cast including Hugh Grant, Sally Hawkins, Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters and the voice of Paddington Bear, Ben Whishaw.
It takes the record from another famous sequel, Toy Story 2 (USA, 1999), which was directed by John Lasseter as a follow up to Toy Story (1995).
Toy Story 2 also has a 100% Tomatometer score on the site, but based on just 169 positive reviews as opposed to Paddington 2's 245.
Both Paddington 2 and Toy Story 2 have beaten the classic Citizen Kane (USA, 1941), which is coveted by many as the greatest film ever made.
Directed by Orson Welles, Citizen Kane has a 99% Tomatometer score based on 116 reviews - only one of which is negative.
The recent discovery of this 80-year-old negative review brought its score down from the coveted score of 100% to 99%.
The addition of the negative review was pointed out by a Twitter user on 26 April 2021.
Paddington Bear himself also posted on Twitter after finding out Paddington 2 had overtaken Citizen Kane on the review aggregation site.
I do hope Mr Kane won't be too upset when he hears I've overtaken him with rotten tomatoes.
