This honey looks like a magical elixir from a faraway land!

On 16th February 2021, Centauri Honey (Turkey) broke the world record for most expensive honey.

This heavenly ambrosia carried a hefty price tag of £8,700/kg (€10,000/kg).

As you would imagine, this nectar is very different from conventional honey.

This cave honey is excavated (as the name suggests) from a cave 2,500 meters above sea level, far away from any human residences and from any other bee colonies.

The nectar is dark in colour and has a bitter taste.

The honey also has high medicinal properties as it is high in magnesium, potassium, phenols, flavonoids, and antioxidants.

These are produced from the medicinal herbs planted around the cave that the bees feed on.

Centauri Honey follow specific rules when it comes to looking after their bees to ensure the best quality, which is very different to conventional methods.

This makes the honey even harder to produce, especially since the bees are based at high altitude.

As opposed to most other commercial beekeepers that harvest honey 2-3 times a year, Centauri Honey only harvests honey once a year.

This is to ensure that there is enough honey to also sustain the bees.

Only the best quality material is harvested, with samples sent to the Turkish Scientific Council/ Food Institute to verify the value and quality of the mixture.

"Real honey cannot be sold in markets & shops because bees can never make tons of honey for human consumption naturally. Some say it’s an expensive honey, I call it a world treasure." - AhmetEren Cakir, Founder of Centauri Honey

An official adjudicator verified Centauri Honey’s achievement on a video call to confirm that the record had been broken.

Congratulations to Centauri Honey on this world treasure!
