On Tuesday night’s episode of America’s Got Talent, one performance was taken to the next level as a contestant aimed to make history on stage.

In a head-to-head battle in which host Terry Crews participated, David Rush impressed audience members and celebrity judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum, and Howie Mandell as he attempted the Guinness World Records title for most t-shirts worn and torn in one minute

With David and Terry lined up on stage wearing 30 t-shirts each, they aimed to ripped through at least 29 in order to break the record title. Only catch is that they could only use their hands!

As both the crowd and judges cheered them on, it was a nerve-wracking close call to see who would obtain the title.

After an energetic showdown, David Rush managed to achieve a new title with 29 t-shirts in just 55 seconds.

Rush is no stranger to record-breaking. In fact, it’s a frequent part of his day-to-day life.

With over 150 records previously broken by the STEM education advocate, this was David’s first attempt on the popular television show.

“I met several of the contestants and most were very friendly and loved to chat and share their stories. I've dreamed of this day since the show first aired 15 years ago but never thought I was good enough, entertaining enough, or had what it took to be featured.”

Despite these doubts David still managed live out his ambitions in front of a live studio audience that was pre-recorded earlier in the year.

While he did not make it to the next consecutive round on the show, he is still pursuing record-breaking and all of the principles that come with it.

“I've been promoting a growth-mindset and grit for years, using Guinness World Records to show that if you set your mind to a goal, believe in yourself, and pursue it with a passion, you can accomplish anything.”

David now has more applications submitted to break records in the near future, has also just published his first book
