The new Guinness World Records 2020 book has now launched and to mark the big day we brought the record-breaking fun to Live with Kelly and Ryan!
Last year, we had a blast as hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest took a shot at record titles such as the most people doing the floss dance simultaneously and most juice extracted from grapes by treading in one minute (team of two).
This year, there were outrageous attempts ranging from talented Xpogo athletes, all the way to extraordinary science experiments!
If you missed the action-packed record-breaking attempts that occurred on the popular syndicated US morning show last week, these are the highlights:
Most cars consecutively jumped over by a pogo stick
Xpogo athlete Dalton Smith is no stranger to record-breaking. In 2017, he achieved this record while jumping over three Nissan vehicles on a rooftop in London.
Two years later, Dalton met up with Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest in New York City to beat his title by bouncing over four vehicles. After showing the crowd his full potential by doing flips and stunts on his larger than life pogo stick, Dalton successfully managed to propel himself over four cars – and just nearly missed landing on Ryan! The heightened suspense was an excellent way to kick off the week of records.
Most ballet dancers en pointe simultaneously
The week continued with an army of dancers storming the streets of New York City. After Kelly and Ryan put out a call to action to generate sign-ups for the mass-participation record attempt, many in the area – even neighboring states – came to help achieve the title.
Leading the way were American Ballet theater principal dancers James Whiteside and Isabella Boylston, and several principal dancers from the New York City Ballet including Tiler Peck, Lauren Lovette and Maria Kowroski.
Both young and old came out for the cause, with small participants such as young toddlers to 80-year-old dancers stretching on their tip toes for the main event. With a mark to beat of 245, they succeeded with a total of 306! You could say from this attempt, Live with Kelly and Ryan really know how to set the "barre" high.
Part of the broadcast also included a special surprise for actor Ashton Kutcher, who received his official record title certificate for First to accumulate one million followers on Twitter. After an emotional moment on set, Ashton rushed out to cheer on the dancers who had their sights set on record-breaking!
Most skips by a dog in one minute
On Wednesday (11 September) the show welcomed Samantha Valle, and one of her adorable pets, Rocky. A rescued border collie, Rocky aimed to break his brother Geronimo's record for most double dutch style skips by a dog in one minute.
Geronimo was one of the stars of last year's edition after setting the mark at 128. Even though he came so close becoming the new record holder, Rocky fell short just a few skips by completing 119. We have a feeling this isn’t the last we’ll see of record hopeful, Rocky!
Later on the show, singer and actress, Jennifer Lopez appeared to discuss her latest movie, Hustlers, and also was surprised with a Guinness World Records title.
In between segments, Kelly and Ryan presented her with her official record title certificate for first remix album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart thanks to the success of her 2002 album, J to tha L-O! The Remixes by Jennifer Lopez.
As you can see by her Twitter message – she was very excited for the recognition.
Thank you for the beautiful plaque!! https://t.co/jg25wbyfAZ

Most cupcakes iced/frosted in one minute
Things got sweeter on Thursday when "Cake Boss" Buddy Valastro joined the show to attempt a cupcake frosting record.
Buddy broke the record earlier this year with a total of 20 but was determined to crush that by doubling his final count. Hosts Kelly and Ryan wanted to try their hand against the master baker by also attempting the same record title – but could not quite keep up! After a hysterical 60 seconds, which included Ryan’s frosting bag exploding mid-attempt, Buddy broke his own record with 36!
Largest object drop inertia experiment
Record Breaker Week ended nothing short of spectacular with a whopping three attempts on the show. Multi-record holder Science Bob gave Ryan and Kelly a lesson in the concept of inertia on a grand scale level. Using dozens of eggs, plastic tubes, and beakers filled with water, all three attempters had a blast watching the magic of physics happen right before their eyes through this massive record title! Science Bob, Kelly and Ryan achieved a new record with 138 eggs dropping into beakers.
Earlier on the show, HGTV’s Scott Brothers attempted the record for most underpants put on in one minute (team of two) – a title that had the audience bursting with laughter. As Jonathan Scott volunteered to be the "wearer" brother Drew Scott pulled up multiple pairs of oversized underwear in efforts to beat the minimum of 19. Falling short by one pair, the Scott brothers did not earn a new title – but had tons of fun trying to become record breakers!
Kim Kardashian also appeared on the Friday episode to receive her official certificate for having the most followers on Twitter for a reality TV star. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star received the honour in between segments after talking about her family, lifestyle and new shapewear line.
Congrats to all on their incredible achievements! We’re looking forward to seeing what other titles Kelly, Ryan and guests accomplish in the future!
