This is due to the Birdsville Big Red Bash, an annual music festival that attracts over 10,000 attendees.

The music festival is named after Big Red, a massive sand dune approximately 35km from Birdsville.

At the latest festival, held in July 2018, organisers broke the record for the Largest nutbush dance with 1,719 participants performing the dance while over 500 people watched on. This record was broken in conjunction with the festival's charity partner, the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Australian sporting hero, Nick Cummins, aka the Honey Badger, a former international rugby player, also participated in the attempt.

What is the nutbush dance? The nutbush dance is a type of line dance which is performed to Tina Turner's 1973 song "Nutbush City Limits". It is extremely popular in Australia, and has even been included in some school curriculums!

2000 tokens were 'sold' via a $5 AUD donation to the Royal Flying Doctors' Service in the preceding 24 hours, resulting in the event raising $10,000 AUD for the charity.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service provides primary health care and aeromedical emergency retrievals to those living in rural and remote areas of Australia via aircraft. The organisation is 90 years old, and for some is the only access to doctors or emergency healthcare.

Big Red Bash organised for an adjudicator to be present at the event to give an immediate decision on the record, and to have a certificate presentation in front of all the participants and event attendees.

"It was very dusty (being in the desert) and a cool morning, but the sun was shining. The attempt was successful and was wonderful to see!" Adjudicator Pete Fairbairn.

At the three-day event organisers also ran the Royal Flying Doctors Drag Race where dressed up in drag and competed in a race through the desert. Winners receive prizes and a fashion parade is held at the end of the race.
