Meet the record-breaking superheroes of Guinness World Records 2018

The brand new Guinness World Records 2018 Edition is out now, unveiling extraordinary feats from record holders across the globe.

The 63rd edition of the best-selling annual is filled with jaw-dropping photos and inspiring stories of record-breaking triumphs.

Here’s a sneak peak at this year’s stars:

Longest fingernails on a pair of hands (female) 

Avid nail artist, Ayanna Williams, 60, claims the iconic title for the Longest fingernails on a pair of hands (female). The Houston, Texas native was inspired to grow her fingernails nearly 23 years ago, which now reach an incredible total measurement of 576.4 cm (18 ft. 10.9 in). To take care of her nails, Ayanna stays away from washing the dishes and uses anti-bacterial soap and a nail brush to clean them daily, followed by regular applications of nail hardener and a thin layer of acrylic (which can take up to one week to paint). She doesn’t have too much difficulty doing everyday tasks, except for pulling up her trousers!

Oldest bodybuilder

Jim Arrington has lifted his way into the record books with the Oldest bodybuilder title for his impressive career as a professional body builder at 85 years 6 days. Though he was nicknamed “skinnybones” at a young age, Jim, a father, grandfather and great grandfather from Venice, California, has been bodybuilding for the last 70 years! His tremendous dedication to the craft has brought him to compete in 62 competitions, of which he’s won 16, with no plans to put the weights down just yet.

You Jianxia of Changzhou, Jiangsu, China, holds the title for the Longest eyelash! Grown on her upper left eyelid, the eyelash measures an impressive 12.40 cm (4.88 in) long. You first noticed her eyelash growing during an eighteen month nature retreat she embarked on in 2013, and she puts the growth down to the life she leads at one with nature.

Silver Maine Coon cat, Cygnus of Ferndale, Michigan, is the swinging his tail into the record books. He currently is the record holder for the Longest tail on a domestic cat (living) at 44.66 cm (17.58 inches). Cygnus is a member of a record-breaking household as his brother, Arcturus Aldebaran, also holds the title for Tallest domestic cat (living), at 48.4 cm (19.05 inches).

Benny Harlem, of Los Angeles, California, is reaching new heights with his hair. His current hair style, a 52.0 cm (20.5 in) tall high top fade, has helped him earn the title of Tallest high top fade! The 26 year-old says that styling his hair into shape can take upwards of two hours!

Jackie Miley, of Rapid City, South Dakota had just one bear back in 2000. The first bear, named “Grandma Jackie” is now joined by a verified total of 8,025 other cuddly and comforting teddy bears in a house called Teddy Bear Town, bringing 68-year old Jackie the title of Largest collection of teddy bears. The bears come from all U.S. states and 29 countries. Though she doesn’t have any favourites, her most sentimental is a bear from her elementary school that includes the only school picture (at age 7) that she currently owns.

John and Geof Bitmead of Ambrosden, UK, own the Largest Cozy Coupe.  The Bitmeads, of Attitude Autos, developed the coupe after chatting with an associate of the automotive shop about the small coupe he built for his own son. They put pedal to the metal with their roadworthy Cozy Coupe (dubbed the “Toytown Coupe”) which tops at a 2.7 m (8 ft 10.2 in) long!

The First prosthetic tattoo gun arm was completed in 2016. The gun arm is worn by artist, JC Sheitan Tenet and created by artist and engineer, JL Gonzal (both France) has been inked into the record books. The Lyon, France based tattoo artist lost his arm below the elbow nearly 23 years ago and he challenged himself to use his ghost hand for his work with the prosthetic. Tenet uses it for his blurring and shading work and customers are always amazed by the unique experience.
