Ahead of March Madness, basketball star sisters Marina and Michaela Mabrey, decided to give the Notre Dame University Fighting Irish a special boost before playing in the National Collegiate Athlete Association (NCAA) Tournament.

The siblings from New Jersey did so with a successful attempt for the Most basketball free throws made in one minute by a female pair (two basketballs), with a total of 21 free throws.

The record took place at Purcell Pavillion, the, home of the Fighting Irish, a the Notre Dame University campus in South Bend, Indiana.

The sisters, who have been playing since they were each five years old, were encouraged by staff from the Notre Dame athletics department to use their impressive free-throw skills to break a world record and boost the morale of the Notre Dame Women’s Basketball team right before their Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) tournament.
Speaking after their record-breaking feat, Marina said that breaking a world record together was an opportunity that the pair “never thought would present itself” but admitted they had been “very excited about it and wanted to make their name known a little more in the world of basketball.”

“We’ve played in many games together and have many accomplishments together but breaking a world record in on another level” said Michaela, the eldest of the two and a senior at Notre Dame University.

Michaela and Marina have plans of continuing playing basketball after school, with both of them considering playing at a professional level, whether it is the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) or internationally.

As far as advice for prospective record holders, Marina, pictured in action at the top of the page,  says “if you put in a lot of work in over the years don’t be afraid to show your talent. You always put so much hard work and it’s ok at times to show off and show just how much you have worked over the years.”
