Ahead of BBC's Great British Bake Off final on Wednesday, we're celebrating some star bakers of our own.
British company ADM Milling Ltd has broken the world record for the Fastest field to loaf – oven, after producing a baker’s dozen in a rapid 12 minutes 42.32 seconds.
This challenge requires 13 loaves to be baked from newly harvested wheat and the time is measured from the first movement of the combine harvester to the last loaf hitting the table from the baking tin.
The attempt took place at Codham Hall Farm in Brentwood where a winning team consisting of Keith Woller, Tina Glen, Anna Perz and Robin Hackers worked together to harvest the grain, collect it, mill it, blend it with other ingredients, then divide the dough and finally bake the bread.
The event was organised as part of the company’s initiative to raise £100,000 Great Ormond Street Hospital children’s charity.
Managing director of ADM Milling Ltd, Tim Cook said: “Thanks to our supply partners, we have generated a significant contribution for our GOSH fund raising target. Beating the record and being able to host such an enjoyable event would not have been possible without the support and enthusiasm of Christopher Padfield, his family and colleagues at Codham Hall Farm who kindly hosted the event.”
Commenting on the impressive teamwork of his employees, he added: “The fastest field to loaf challenge presented us with an opportunity to showcase the resourcefulness of ADM colleagues coupled with the benefits of ADM Milling’s integrated supply chain.”
There was a large crowd of people at the event and the loaves of bread were shared out among the guests once the attempt was over.
ADM Milling Ltd successfully broke the previous record of 16 min 30.83 sec that was achieved by Neil Unger in Australia in 2013, with minutes to spare.
