They may be about to go on hiatus, but boyband One Direction are signing off in some style, after chalking up six entries in the new Guinness World Records 2016 book. 
 
The groups impressive record haul in this year's annual sees them recognised for:

·       Most followers on Twitter for a music group23,393,106

·       Most popular dance game trackJust Dance 4’s routine for One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” had earned 36,817,975 views

·       Most subscribers for a band on YouTube36,817,975 views

Since placing third in the 2010 series of the UK singing show The X Factor, the band has built up an incredible global fan base, five Brit Awards, and four MTV Video Music Awards.
 
Every music act dreams of making it in America, and in March 2012 the former five-piece became the First UK group to debut at No.1 in USA with a debut album. The release of Up All Night, saw them achieve first-week sales of 176,000 – bettering the US chart starts of both The Beatles (1964) and the Spice Girls (1997) – 
 
It's success kickstarted a string of hit albums, with the band pulling off the feat of being the First group to debut at No.1 in the US with their first four albums.

In March 2012, the heartthrobs debuted at No.3 on the US singles chart with “Live While We’re Young”, amassing first-week digital sales of 341,000 and a record for the Highest debut by a UK group on the US singles chart.
 
The British band’s unprecedented chart success is matched by their incredible popularity. They have a huge following on social media, and as of 28 April 2015, @OneDirection had 23,393,106 followers on Twitter, which secured yet another record for the boys as they have the Most followers on Twitter for a music group.
 
To the despair of many adoring fans, Zayn Malik left the band in March this year, leaving Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson to carry on as a four-piece.
 
Back in July, the foursome released “Drag Me Down” – the first song from their as-yet untitled fifth studio album. This was followed by the announcement that once promotional duties for the new long player have been completed, the quartet will take a temporary break for a year in order to pursue solo careers.
