Each week here on guinnessworldrecords.com, we’ll be dipping into our extensive video library to bring you a classic piece of record-breaking action.


This week we go back to November 2001 and return to the set of French TV show L'Émission des Records, where the super smart Smudge, owned by Mark Steiger (Switzerland), sets a new record for the Most keys removed from a keyring by a parrot. He was able to remove an incredible ten keys from an 'S' keyring - in under two minutes.

Smudge was attempting to use his beak to break his own record of 12 keyrings which he achieved in January the year before.


Not content to leave it there, Smudge raised the record to 22 on the set of 'Guinness World Records', Madrid, Spain, on 9 January 2009 a feat that remains unbeaten.



Smudge isn't the only parrot in the record-breaking business - Zac the Macaw (USA) holds the records for the Most drinks cans opened by a parrot in one minute, having cracked open 35...

...and the Most basketball slam dunks in one minute by a parrot, having completed an impressive 22 shots.
