Friday marks National Doughnut Day! Celebrated on the first Friday of June each year, National Doughnut Day originated in 1938 to honor The Salvation Army’s ‘doughnut girls,’ who served the treats to American soldiers during World War 1.

The tallest stack of doughnuts measured 110.5 cm (43.5 in) and was built by members of 20th Century Fox and Capital Radio to celebrate the premier of The Simpsons Movie (USA, 2007), at the offices of Capital Radio in Leicester Square, London, UK on 25 July 2007. A team of eight built the stack in a pyramidal structure using 1,764 ring doughnuts.

The largest box of doughnuts is a Krispy Kreme box weighing 135 kg (297 lb 10 oz) and was produced by The Kuwait Food Co. Americana (Kuwait), in Kuwait, Kuwait, on 30 May 2009.

The longest line of doughnuts (Berliner) is 561.4 m (1841 ft 10 in) was achieved by Friedrichstadt-Palast (Germany), in Berlin, Germany, on 27 April 2014. The record attempt took place to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the new building of Friedrichstadt-Palast, Europe’s Show Palace.
Largest doughnut mosaic
The largest doughnut mosaic was created with 7,040 doughnuts at the Lviv Pampykh Festival in Lviv, Ukraine, on 07 Jan 2012. The attempt took place on Ukrainian Christmas day (7 January) as part of their Pampukh Festival. After the attempt all doughnuts were distributed to the public who had gathered on Market Square, the venue where the mosaic was created.
