Each week here we offer five of the latest records verified by our Records Management Team from around the globe, asking you to vote for your favourite, in what we call the Fan Choice record of the week. At the end of the year, we then take the winners and pit them in a knockout-style bracket to determine - once again entirely by fan vote - what the Guinness World Records universe's favourite record of the year is.

LONGEST MARATHON ON A FAIRGROUND ATTRACTION

Record: 50 hours
Holder: Sam Clauw (Belgium)
Location: Bellewaerde theme park outside Ypres, Belgium
That's not all: An avid fan of the park, Sam decided he wanted to challenge himself to the next level beyond just visiting in his spare time. And so he rode the famous "Pirate Boat" for 50 hours exactly, both during the park's operating hours and afterward. You can see him sitting next to the lion mascot above. Sam also used the attempt to raise funds and awareness for ALTA, a charity supported by Bellewaerde for the endangerment of amur leopards and tigers.

That's not all: Essing hit the road for a total of 3 months and a week, crossing the entire nation of Germany north-south. Journeys of this caliber usually have some deep motivation or inspiration behind them, but Essing says that wasn't the case: "It was just about doing something really crazy in my life."
MOST BALLOONS BURST BY LASER IN ONE MINUTE

Record: 32
Holder: Daniel Black (UK)
Location: Elstree, UK
That's not all: Using what basically looks like a type of real-life lightsaber, Daniel built this ultra-bright himself to make this attempt. It took him 18 months to perfect his creation, as many handheld lasers would overheat or fail before ever approaching the power of his invention. It took Daniel just 24 seconds out of his alotted minute to zap each of the balloons he had set up into oblivion.

That's not all: The attempt capped off the Boise State Student Involvement and Leadership Center's Bronco Welcome Week, an annual school opener in which BSU welcomes new and returning students to campus. LONGEST CHEST HAIR

Record: 23.3 cm (9.17 in)
Holder: Zhao Jingtao (China)
Location: Harbin, Heilongjiang, China
That's not all: Zhao owned a previous chest hair that had grown almost long enough to beat the prior record, but was accidentally pulled out in June 2011. Hate when that happens. He spent more than two years regrowing it before he broke the record for good this time around. He says the hair grows an everage of 1 cm per month and hopes to continue extending the record.
