To commemorate 60 years of the much loved Guinness World Records annual and record-breaking organisation, Guinness World Records have honoured outstanding athletes from across the sports landscape with an exclusive 60th anniversary certificate and medal, in recognition of the fantastic achievements throughout the glittering careers which have earned them their GWR title.

Amongst the sportsmen and women included in the celebrations is the cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who is universally regarded as the finest batsman to have ever played the game.

On announcing his three new Guinness World Records titles for Most test matches in a career, Most centuries scored in international cricketand Most runs scored in an international career, Sachin said: "I'm delighted to be included in the Guinness World Records 60th anniversary celebrations. I'm extremely proud of what I was able to achieve throughout my career in Cricket and to be recognised alongside so many other greats feels very special."

In a career that spanned 24 years, transcended the sport and led to him being revered throughout his homeland, the "Little Master" played in a record 200 Tests, scoring 15,921 runs, and in 463 one-day internationals, scoring 18,426 runs.

Sachin, 41, retired last year with an unparalleled record of 100 international centuries.

He currently holds a staggering 19 Guinness World Records titles. These are:

  • Most runs scored in an international career (male)
  • Most player-of-the-match awards won (international career)

  • Most hundreds in a One-Day International career (male)
  • Highest partnership for any wicket in a One-Day International (male)
  • Most Test matches played in a career (male)
  • Most runs scored in a Test match career (male)
  • First player to score a double century in a 50-over international

Commenting on Sachin’s achievements, Craig Glenday Guinness World Records Editor-in Chief, said ‘Sachin Tendulkar is India’s most famous multiple record-holder. He’s also an inspiration to millions of people, not just in India but around the world, and we’re extremely honoured to recognise him in our anniversary year.’

Other stars honoured by GWR include Usain Bolt (Fastest 100m Sprint), Paula Radcliffe (Fastest Marathon, Female), Sir Steve Redgrave (Most Olympic rowing gold medals), Mo Farah (Most European Athletics Championships 5,000 metres gold medals), Linford Christie (Fastest men’s indoor 4x200 metres relay) and Tennis player Sabine Lisicki (Fastest tennis serve by a woman).

As well as the fantastic certificate and medal presentations, Guinness World Records today releases a series of short original films, celebrating some of the most iconic records that have been documented over the past six decades.

The series, hosted on the Guinness World Records YouTube Channel, includes never before seen contributions from truly great record holders such as Lord Sebastian Coe, Sir Roger Bannister, Sir Richard Branson and Sir Ranulph Fiennes to name just a few.
